Netflix real-time voting lets viewers participate in select live events and live podcasts—not across the full Netflix catalog. To vote, watch an eligible program live on a supported TV, streaming device or mobile device, then submit once per profile during the on-screen voting window. You cannot vote in a web browser, change a submitted vote or cast one after the livestream.
How does Netflix real-time voting work?
Netflix announced the feature on January 20, 2026, describing it as a way for viewers to influence select live programming. The company said it had first tested an early version on Dinner Time Live with David Chang. Netflix’s announcement called the rollout global, but that means the feature was introduced for select programming, not that every event or title in every country supports voting.
When a qualifying prompt appears during a live program, choose from the options shown on screen. On a TV or streaming device, use the remote; in the Netflix mobile app, tap the screen. Netflix says each profile gets one vote for a prompt. The vote may affect how a particular show or its contestants progress, depending on that program’s format.
What shows have real-time voting?
Eligibility is title-specific and can change. Netflix’s Help Center describes voting as available during select live events and live podcasts, and currently names The Bill Simmons Podcast when watched live. It says an episode with voting indicates this at the beginning after you select play. Check the event or episode itself and Netflix’s current real-time voting instructions; the feature is not a general-purpose poll for on-demand shows.

Star Search was the initial example in Netflix’s launch announcement. The 2026 reboot premiered on January 20 and its finale concluded February 17, so its launch-era role does not establish that it remains available for voting now.
How many times can I vote, and can I change my vote?
You can vote once per profile during each voting window. A prompt is available only for a limited time, and a submitted vote cannot be changed. Netflix’s Help Center says you must be watching live: rewinding or joining behind the live point can mean you miss the window. Voting is not available after the livestream.

Netflix’s At-Home Audience Voting Terms add that each feature has its own rules and participation window, which may change. They prohibit attempts to gain extra votes using multiple accounts or profiles, as well as bot or automated participation. Netflix also reserves for itself circumstances in which it may modify or suspend a feature; technical problems can prevent a participation outcome from being determined. A vote should not be treated as guaranteed to register in every circumstance.
Which devices are supported? Can I vote in a browser?
Netflix lists TVs, TV streaming devices and mobile devices as supported categories. Web browsers are excluded. For mobile voting, Netflix specifies Android 9 or later or iOS/iPadOS 17 or later, with the latest Netflix app. For TVs, streaming devices and game consoles, keep the device software updated. If Netflix reports that your device is unsupported, use another supported device.

Netflix Tudum’s Star Search coverage names Roku among streaming-device examples, but that does not confirm compatibility for every Roku model. No purchase is required if you already have a supported device.
Does language setting affect voting?
The voting interface is in English, but Netflix says viewers can vote regardless of their profile’s language settings. The audio and subtitle languages offered for a live event are separate from the voting interface.

What did audience voting decide on Star Search?
The finale shows how much influence voting can have when a program’s format assigns it that role. For the February 17, 2026 finale, the judges did not vote; the audience alone determined the winner. Viewers cast nine votes: one five-star rating for each of eight performers, followed by a multiple-choice vote among the four highest-scoring acts. Magician TJ Salta won, and Netflix says the results of each round were revealed live. Netflix Tudum’s recap describes the finale format.
The podcast use case is different: Netflix describes voting there as a way to shape the live conversation and settle debates with Bill Simmons and guests. There is no single outcome or voting format that applies to every title.

What Netflix’s audience figures do—and don’t—show
In its Q4 2025 shareholder letter, Netflix attributed an average-minute audience of 33 million (Live+1) to Anthony Joshua’s sixth-round knockout of Jake Paul. That is an audience figure for the live event, not a count of voters or evidence that voting increased viewership. Netflix characterized live programming as a small share of total viewing hours while saying major events can generate disproportionate excitement and sign-ups; that is the company’s own business framing, not an independent finding. Netflix’s investor-relations page provides its shareholder letters.
