Gemini Spark may no longer have a separate entry point in the Gemini web interface for some accounts. A report from Chrome Unboxed on October 1, 2026, describes an interface update that replaces the “Switch to Spark” sidebar option with a “Chat or Task” choice beneath the prompt. That points to an integration of Spark tasks into Gemini—not confirmation that Google has retired the Spark name or product.
What changed in Gemini’s web interface?
Chrome Unboxed reported that accounts receiving the update no longer had a separate “Switch to Spark” entry in the sidebar. Instead, users could choose “Chat or Task” below Gemini’s main prompt. The report also says task threads and schedules appeared in Gemini’s standard sidebar.
The reported change is about where users start and find tasks. It does not establish that every account has the same layout, or independently verify that all Spark capabilities work identically in the updated interface. The rollout’s full timing and geographic scope have not been established.
Has Google discontinued the Spark name?
Not according to Google’s current documentation: its Gemini Apps Help page still calls the feature Gemini Spark and explains how to access it under that name. Chrome Unboxed reported that Google had not published an official blog post outlining this particular interface change.

The evidence supports describing this as a reported move to bring Spark tasks into Gemini’s main web interface. It does not confirm a formal, platform-wide rebrand or retirement of Spark. Google’s naming decision and the complete rollout remain unresolved.
What Gemini Spark does
Google describes Spark as a personal AI agent for complex workflows and ongoing tasks. Its help page says tasks can use skills, connected apps and Google services, chats, websites, Personal Intelligence, and browser or remote-computer capabilities, subject to availability. Google’s product announcement describes recurring tasks, trigger-based tasks, and workflows that can combine information across services such as Gmail and Docs.

In that announcement, Josh Woodward, VP, Google Labs, Gemini app & AI Studio, characterized Spark as “a 24/7 personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life.” That is Google’s description of the product, not an independent assessment of its reliability or performance.
Who can use Spark, and what are its limits?
Google’s help page currently lists these access requirements:
- You must be at least 18 and signed in with a personal Google Account.
- You must have a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription, and Keep Activity must be on.
- Work and school accounts are not currently supported.
Availability varies. Google also says usage limits depend on subscription tier and task complexity, and documents a limit of up to 15 tasks running at a time. These are current help-page terms, not assurances that access or limits will remain unchanged.
What to consider before running a task
Google labels Spark experimental and warns that it can make mistakes or take unexpected actions. Its help page advises users not to put sign-in credentials, payment details, or other sensitive information directly into task threads, and to avoid schedules involving sensitive information or actions.

When browser tools are used, Spark may share information needed to complete a task with third-party sites. Some actions require user confirmation or a takeover by the user. Treat tasks as supervised automation: review what Gemini proposes or does, and do not rely on it to handle sensitive actions without your involvement.

Google’s original announcement said Spark would first go to trusted testers and then enter beta for U.S. Google AI Ultra subscribers. It presented Spark as a cloud-based agent able to keep working while a laptop was closed or a phone was locked, and noted that features vary by subscription tier and geography. That announcement describes the product’s initial positioning; it does not verify the October 2026 interface change.

For now, the most precise answer to “Where did Gemini Spark go?” is that some Gemini web users reportedly see task controls integrated into the main interface, while Google’s help material still uses the Spark name. The available reporting does not establish when all users will see the change or whether Google plans to drop that name.
