Reddit says it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, citing large-scale scraping and automated abuse. The change affects ordinary readers and moderators differently: Reddit says there is no replacement for feeds outside communities you moderate, while it points moderators toward supported tools for some alert workflows.
What is changing, and when?
In a moderator announcement dated September 30, 2026, Reddit said RSS feed support will end on November 13, 2026. The company described RSS as “a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse” and said it would preserve moderation workflows that depend on feeds through supported alternatives. Read Reddit’s announcement.
That is Reddit’s stated rationale, not an independently established measure of how much scraping relies on RSS or how much retiring feeds will reduce it. Reddit did not quantify either effect in the announcement.
Who loses access to what?
| Use case | What Reddit says changes | What the alternative covers |
|---|---|---|
| Moderator monitoring a community | RSS-based alert workflows need to be reviewed before November 13. | Reddit recommends migrating eligible moderation workflows to supported tools, including Devvit apps such as Discord Relay. |
| Reader following feeds outside a community they moderate | Reddit says, “If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement.” | No general RSS-reader replacement is announced. |
The key distinction is not simply whether someone uses RSS. It is whether the feed supports moderation in a community they moderate or general reading beyond those communities.

What can moderators use instead?
Discord Relay
Reddit’s developer documentation describes Discord Relay as a Devvit app that forwards subreddit posts, comments, and moderation activity to Discord or Slack channels. Moderators can configure event types and webhook destinations. This is a community-configured alerting workflow, not a general RSS reader for subscribing to subreddits across Reddit. See Discord Relay’s official listing.
Plan the migration
- Inventory your feeds. Identify which feeds support moderator alerts for a community you moderate and which are used for general reading.
- Review the official setup guidance. Reddit’s announcement links to instructions for setting up Discord Relay; check that guidance and the app’s capabilities against the events and destinations your team needs.
- Configure and verify alerts before the cutoff. Test the selected event types and Discord or Slack destination while your existing workflow is still available, and make sure the moderators who rely on it can access the new channel.
- Replace only the workflows the tool covers. Discord Relay’s documented role is relaying activity from a subreddit to Discord or Slack. It does not restore general RSS subscriptions outside communities you moderate.
Is the RSS shutdown the same as Reddit’s API change?
No. The RSS cutoff is November 13, 2026. Separately, TechCrunch reported on September 30, 2026 that Reddit plans to end public API access by March 2027 and that approved app and bot developers should register before January 12, 2027. Those are reported dates for developer access, not dates for the RSS shutdown; do not treat one change as a substitute or extension of the other. Read TechCrunch’s report.

What Reddit has not quantified
The announcement does not name a measurement of RSS readership, quantify how much scraping uses RSS, or estimate the effect of ending feeds on scraping. TechCrunch also reported Reddit’s Q2 2026 “other revenue” as $43 million, up 24% year over year, but that broad company figure does not isolate RSS, AI licensing, or the financial motive for this decision. It should not be read as evidence of a specific cause for the RSS policy.
