The Roomba Max 875 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock is iRobot’s newest flagship, introduced on September 2, 2026, with a $1,199 MSRP. Its headline promise is less routine work: it vacuums and mops, protects carpet when it detects it, and uses a dock that washes and dries its mop while emptying debris. The specifications and performance multipliers below are iRobot’s claims, not independent test results.
How the Roomba Max 875 compares with the Plus 678
The Plus 678 is the closest same-launch alternative identified by iRobot. This comparison uses iRobot’s stated features; it does not reflect independent testing.
| Feature | Roomba Max 875 | Roomba Plus 678 |
|---|---|---|
| MSRP | $1,199 (iRobot, 2026) | $899 (iRobot, 2026) |
| Carpet pickup approach | SealForce chassis seal | SealForce chassis seal; SprayForce AI pretreatment |
| Mopping | Heated-mist pretreatment and a self-cleaning roller mop | Self-cleaning heated roller mop |
| Carpet protection | AI-powered DriLift raises the mop and lowers a protective shield | 10 mm mop lift |
| Dock automation | Washes and dries the roller, dispenses concentrate and empties debris | 90-day debris emptying; other dock functions not stated by iRobot |
| Obstacle avoidance | LiDAR and AI object recognition; iRobot says it recognizes more than 300 common household objects | Not stated by iRobot |
| Footprint and threshold ability | Not stated by iRobot | Not stated by iRobot |
| Expected maintenance | Dock debris bag rated for up to 90 days; roller washing and drying are automated | Debris emptying rated for 90 days; roller-care interval not stated by iRobot |
The Max 875 adds more dock and carpet-management automation on paper. The Plus 678 costs less at MSRP, but the available specifications do not establish how the two compare in real homes for pickup, mopping quality, noise, battery life or durability.
How the Max 875 handles vacuuming and mopping
Carpet pickup with SealForce
iRobot says SealForce forms a seal between the robot chassis and carpet fibers, directing airflow through the carpet rather than letting it escape around the edges. The company specifies 20 L/s airflow and 35,000 Pa suction, and claims three times deeper carpet cleaning compared with carpet vacuuming without SealForce. These figures and the multiplier come from iRobot; they are not independently verified test results.

- PRO-LEVEL CLEANING FOR HARD FLOORS AND CARPETS. From tough kitchen stains to everyday dirt and dust, our most advanced robot is designed for deep cleaning.
- POWERFUL PICKUP FOR EVERYDAY HOUSEHOLD MESSES. Our proprietary combination of SealForce Technology , tornado-like airflow, and 5x more suction concentrates vacuuming power to pull dust, pet hair, and crumbs from deep within carpet fibers for our best pickup performance.
- REMOVE TOUGH STAINS IN ONE CLEANING ROUTINE. Skip manual scrubbing. Ultrasonic ThermaMist 140°F softens dried spills while the PowerSpin Max Roller Mop cleans with 140°F hot water for 2x better stain removal* and noticeably spotless floors. *Compared to mopping without ThermaMist
- THE INDUSTRY’S BIGGEST ROLLER FOR MORE SCRUBBING POWER WITH FEWER PASSES. The self-cleaning PowerSpin Max Roller Mop combines 140°F hot water, 300 RPM roller speed, and 18N of downward pressure to tackle tough messes efficiently, helping clean large areas faster in one pass.
- BETTER COVERAGE ALONG EDGES AND CORNERS. Dust often collects where traditional cleaning misses. PerfectEdge extends the roller up to 45mm along walls and baseboards while the outward expanding Edge-Sweeping side brush reaches corners and around furniture to help clean wall-to-wall.
Roller mopping and dried spills
For hard floors, Ultrasonic ThermaMist continuously applies heated mist to loosen dried-on spills. The PowerSpin Max roller mop continuously self-cleans as it works. iRobot specifies a roller speed of 300 RPM and 18 N of downward pressure, and claims 3.75 times deeper scrubbing. The claim describes iRobot’s comparison, not a published independent benchmark.
Carpet detection and edge cleaning
When the robot detects carpet, AI-powered DriLift raises the mop and lowers a shield intended to protect the carpet. For edges, PerfectEdge extends the roller up to 45 mm along walls and baseboards, while an outward-expanding side brush is designed to reach into corners. Those are design features; the announcement does not establish how consistently they clean different carpet types, corners or floor transitions.

- AVOIDS CORDS, SOCKS—EVEN PET ACCIDENTS. Powered by PrecisionVision AI, Roomba recognizes cords, socks, pet waste, and more—steering around them in real time and automatically re‑cleaning areas where wet or dry messes are detected.
What the AutoWash dock automates
The dock washes the roller with 176°F water and dries it with 131°F heated air. It also dispenses StayClean concentrate and transfers vacuumed debris into a carbon AllergenLock bag. iRobot rates the bag for up to 90 days of debris maintenance; that is an upper-limit rating, not a guarantee of three months between service for every home. Pets, floor area and cleaning frequency can affect how quickly a bag fills.
Automation reduces some recurring chores, but it does not make the system maintenance-free: the dock still relies on a roller, cleaning concentrate and a debris bag. iRobot’s announcement does not state a roller replacement interval or a schedule for other routine upkeep.

Navigation, app controls and what is not established
ClearView Pro Dual-Line LiDAR and PrecisionVision AI provide navigation and obstacle recognition. iRobot says the system can identify and avoid more than 300 common household objects. The Roomba Home App supports schedules, room targeting, pet-area priorities and voice commands.
Object recognition is not a promise that the robot will avoid every hazard in every room. The announcement does not provide independent obstacle-avoidance results, battery endurance, measured cleaning times, noise levels, long-term reliability findings, or footprint and threshold specifications. Those omissions make the Max’s advertised automation easier to assess than its day-to-day performance.

Is the Roomba Max 875 worth considering?
It is most compelling for someone who wants one robot to vacuum and mop, has a mix of carpet and hard flooring, and values automated roller care and debris emptying. The mop-lifting and shield design is particularly relevant in homes where a robot must move between hard floors and carpet. The advertised combination is ambitious, but it remains a manufacturer-described feature set rather than a verified account of how well it performs in use.
The Plus 678 is the lower-priced same-launch option for buyers who want a combo robot with SealForce and a self-cleaning heated roller mop, and can accept less-detailed dock and obstacle-avoidance specifications. Compare the official features against your rooms and cleaning needs; neither model’s published announcement resolves questions about real-world pickup, scrubbing, navigation reliability or upkeep.

Is Roomba Duo available instead?
No retail availability is established in the announcement. iRobot introduced Roomba Duo on September 4, 2026 as an IFA prototype: a main vacuum-and-steam-mop robot paired with a companion unit. It is future concept technology, not a confirmed alternative to buy alongside the Max 875.
