Fujifilm’s FinePix REAL 3D V3 was a glasses-free 3D photo viewer announced in 2011. Its key upgrade over the V1 was a lenticular display, alongside a brighter 7.2-inch screen and an HDMI input for compatible 3D devices. The specifications and launch details below describe the product as reported at the time, not its present-day availability.

What is the FinePix REAL 3D V3?

The V3 is a digital image viewer designed to show photos and video in 2D or glasses-free 3D. Fujifilm announced it in 2011 as an upgraded model in its FinePix REAL 3D line. The company’s earlier system, launched in summer 2009, included the FinePix REAL 3D W1 camera, the V1 viewer and a 3D print service, according to Fujifilm’s 2010 technical paper, “Development of ‘3D Digital Camera System’. The V1 and V3 are separate viewer models; that system history does not establish that they share all specifications.

How does the lenticular display show 3D without glasses?

A lenticular sheet is a layer of tiny lens-like elements over the display. It directs different image views toward each eye, so the viewer can perceive depth without wearing 3D glasses. The V3 adopted this approach where the V1 used a parallax barrier. Fujifilm’s 3D cameras had already used a lenticular system, so the V3’s change was an upgrade to the viewer rather than the first use of lenticular technology across Fujifilm’s 3D products.

New Atlas’s 2011 announcement report said the V3’s 3D resolution was 800 × 600 across two channels. It also relayed Fujifilm’s description of the image as bright, clear and flicker-free; that was the company’s characterization, not an independent performance test.

What changed from the FinePix REAL 3D V1?

The contemporaneous New Atlas report identified the display technology and brightness as the main comparisons. It did not establish other V1 specifications, so the comparison below is limited to what that report stated.

Feature FinePix REAL 3D V1 FinePix REAL 3D V3
3D display approach Parallax barrier Lenticular sheet
Reported brightness 250 cd/m² 340 cd/m²
2D/3D display capability Not stated in the New Atlas report 2D and glasses-free 3D

What could you connect to the HDMI input?

The HDMI input was intended to let the V3 receive images from compatible cameras and other 3D-enabled devices. New Atlas named Fujifilm’s FinePix REAL 3D W3 camera as one example, and also mentioned televisions and other 3D devices. The report does not define compatibility with every HDMI source, signal format or modern device, so check the exact output requirements before relying on a connection.

When was the V3 released, and is it available now?

Paul Ridden’s New Atlas report, dated November 3, 2011, said the V3 was scheduled for release in Japan on November 12, 2011. At the time, the report said Fujifilm had not announced a price or availability outside Japan. Those statements describe the 2011 announcement; they do not establish current stock, pricing, support or warranty coverage.

If you are considering a used unit, confirm that the listing is specifically for the V3 rather than the V1. Ask about the screen and HDMI input, whether the wireless remote and adjustable stand are included, and whether the seller accepts returns. Verify the media and file compatibility you need against the actual unit; a specification from 2011 alone cannot confirm its present condition.
