Epic’s Fortnitemares 2026 event runs until November 1, bringing the Bonerattler SMG, Freddy’s Nightmare, Halloween-themed Overrides, returning weapons, and changes to several Fortnite modes. The event post also outlines dated content for Reload and limited-time Power Hours, so availability can vary by date and playlist.
What changes in Fortnitemares 2026?
Epic frames the event around a cursed cartridge that changes the Island through new Overrides and weapons. The event includes crossovers featuring Freddy Fazbear, Hazbin Hotel, Freddy Krueger, Beetlejuice, Obsession, and more. Epic’s Fortnitemares 2026 event notes say it runs until November 1.

Some additions are weapons or loot, while others are match-wide rule changes, character possession, or mode-specific updates. The event notes do not provide weapon damage, rarity, cooldown, spawn-rate, or win-rate figures.
How do Override Consoles work?
Override Consoles are in-match objectives that let a player change rules for the whole server. Epic’s August 20 season announcement says, “Override Consoles appear in every match and let you rewrite the rules for the entire server, but you have to get there first.” The claimant’s name appears around the console base.

Regular Overrides
Event Overrides alter gameplay rules. Spooky Sprinter cloaks a player while sprinting; Berserk increases damage as health falls; and Spooky Prop Hunt disguises a player as a Halloween prop. Other listed effects trade shields for extra health or let players fire pumpkin rockets while shooting weapons.
Squad Overrides
Rare Squad Overrides buff only the first squad to claim one, and broadcast that squad’s location on the map. That creates a trade-off: the squad gains the effect but also becomes easier for opponents to locate.

Epic says Freddy Krueger can hide behind a friendly face, then vanish and reappear nearby. The Bonerattler’s wall-reveal effect is reconnaissance; Freddy’s Nightmare is a boss-earned teleport-and-slash weapon. The event notes do not give numerical damage or cooldown comparisons.

What returned, and what was vaulted?

Ranked and Competitive receive only a portion of the event’s vaults and unvaults, including new weapons and mobility. Epic does not enumerate the exact subset in the event post, so the full event list should not be assumed to apply to those playlists.
What happens with animatronics and Sprites?
Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronics appear around the Island. After defeating one, a player can possess it and play as that animatronic. If its health runs out during possession, the player gets a few seconds of protection before the shell breaks and they return to the fight.
The event introduces Spooky Dash, Vampire, Deer, and Dumpster Dive Sprites. Honey Sprite and Obsession Sprite are scheduled to arrive October 15. Pumpkin Chests contain Sprites, and Epic says more will arrive during the month.

What is changing in Horde Rush, Blitz Royale, and Reload?
Horde Rush
Horde Rush is squad combat against waves of Cube Monsters. The mode includes perks, purchasable and upgradeable weapons, surprise encounters, and Cursed Shrines. Defeating the final boss unlocks an Endless Mode.
Blitz Royale
Blitz Royale adds the Bonerattler SMG and Freddy’s Nightmare. The event notes also mention Ghost Face and the Last Call knife: eliminating the wielder lets another player take the weapon and role.

Epic schedules Nightmare Island’s return with a refreshed map and horror weapons for October 8. Stranger Things and Squid Grounds are also scheduled to join Reload’s map rotation that day.

What were the October 3 Power Hours?
Epic listed two Power Hours on October 3: 2 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. UTC and 9 p.m. ET / 1 a.m. UTC Sunday. The schedule included Dual Fiend Hunters for all players, more frequent Bounty Hunter Sprites, and possible 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors from Chests. These are dated event windows, not a continuing schedule.

Rebecca’s Guns and pickup behavior
Epic says Rebecca’s Guns receive increased SMG damage, including at longer ranges, plus reduced spread and recoil for both the SMG and Assault Rifle. Other listed quality-of-life changes revise pickup prioritization, make sequential floor-loot pickup slower and more consistent across input methods, and make Cheat Codes audible from farther away.
Platform fixes
The event notes list, among other fixes, a Switch 2 flashing issue affecting Rebecca’s Guns and a PC issue involving movement-key rebinding.

PC asset download option
In the Epic Games Launcher, Epic Quality Assets replaces the previous High Resolution Textures option. It covers Epic-quality gameplay content; cosmetics still download on demand. Epic also says Fortnite balances bandwidth between gameplay and streamed assets, prioritizing gameplay.
How do the nearby v42.20 and v42.30 notes relate?
Epic’s September 17 v42.20 and October 1 v42.30 ecosystem notes are separate from the Fortnitemares Battle Royale event notes. The v42.20 notes cover creator-facing horror tools, an Unarmed update for first- and third-person experiences, a Channel API, and UEFN weapons including the Reaper Sniper Rifle and Accelerant Drum Gun. The v42.30 notes cover ecosystem items such as a conversation template, non-weapon held items, editor Content Pre-Checks, and analytics benchmarks. These release notes provide nearby Fortnite ecosystem context; they do not establish that their creator-focused weapons belong to the Fortnitemares Battle Royale loot pool.
