Bitcoin briefly climbed to about $85,600 before reversing, and a Thursday market report placed it above $83,000 but below $86,000. Separately, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported that August PCE inflation was 3.4% year over year and 0.3% month over month. The figures describe consumer-price changes; they do not establish why Bitcoin moved or predict the Federal Reserve’s next decision.
What happened to Bitcoin?
TechJuice reported that Bitcoin briefly reached around $85,600, then pulled back, trading above $83,000 and below $86,000 on Thursday. The outlet also said BTC began the fourth quarter near $83,550, following a reported 42.7% gain in the third quarter that it described as the strongest third-quarter performance since 2017. These are dated, secondary-source observations, not a live quote or independently verified market record. TechJuice’s report does not provide a reliably established publication date in the available record.
What did the August PCE report say?
The BEA released Personal Income and Outlays, August 2026 on September 30, 2026. It reported the following changes in the PCE price index:

Year-over-year and month-over-month figures answer different questions: the first compares prices with August 2025, while the second compares them with July 2026. Neither pair is a market forecast; these are the BEA’s published measurements.

What core PCE measures—and what it does not
The PCE price index tracks price changes for goods and services purchased by consumers in the United States. Core PCE excludes food and energy. The BEA explains that removing these categories can make underlying price trends easier to see because food and energy prices can fluctuate more sharply. Why the report was described as clouding the outlook
TechJuice framed annual updates and methodology changes as complications for interpreting the inflation figures. The BEA confirms that its August release included annual updates to the National Economic Accounts, with revisions to personal-income and outlay estimates beginning in January 2021. That fact alone does not verify a specific adjustment to core inflation. TechJuice, attributing the claim to The Kobeissi Letter, reported a possible reduction of up to 20 basis points; the BEA release does not substantiate that estimate. It should therefore be treated as attributed commentary, not as an official BEA finding.

The same distinction applies to Federal Reserve expectations. Inflation data may inform market discussion of monetary policy, but the BEA’s statistical release does not say what the Federal Reserve will do next. The available reporting also does not establish that the August PCE release caused Bitcoin’s reversal.
How to read the reported Bitcoin levels
TechJuice cited a liquidation cluster near $83,000, support around $82,500, sell orders near $85,000, and long-term-holder holdings between $84,000 and $85,000 as possible factors. These are source-reported technical observations—not official price floors, ceilings, or durable levels. The article also attributed to Glassnode a nearly 20% decline in Bitcoin-denominated futures open interest from its August low while Bitcoin’s price rose 35%, interpreting falling open interest as potentially reducing exposure to large leverage liquidations. The underlying Glassnode material was not independently located, so both the figures and interpretation remain attributed to TechJuice’s report.
