For US buyers, the reported Galaxy S26 list prices rose again in October 2026: the starting prices are now $999 for the S26, $1,199 for the S26+, and $1,399 for the S26 Ultra, according to Tom’s Guide’s October 1 report. That followed a separate launch-price increase earlier in the year for the base and Plus models. Whether upgrading is worth it depends less on the headline MSRP than on your actual checkout price and what your current phone still does for you.
How much do Galaxy S26 prices reportedly cost now?
Tom’s Guide reported these US list prices on October 1, 2026. Its figures are rounded to whole dollars; check Samsung or a retailer for the live price, since the report is not a real-time checkout quote.
| Model and storage | Earlier US price in Tom’s Guide report | Reported price as of Oct. 1, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26, 256GB | $899 | $999 |
| Galaxy S26, 512GB | Not stated in the October report | $1,199 |
| Galaxy S26+, 256GB | $1,099 | $1,199 |
| Galaxy S26+, 512GB | Not stated in the October report | $1,399 |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 256GB | $1,299 | $1,399 |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 512GB | Not stated in the October report | $1,599 |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 1TB | Not stated in the October report | $1,999 |
Tom’s Guide says the 256GB starting tiers each rose by $100 and the 512GB and 1TB Ultra configurations rose by $200. These are reported US prices, not a claim about prices in other countries, carrier deals, or current promotional offers. Samsung’s US launch announcement listed starting prices of $899.99, $1,099.99, and $1,299.99; its March 2026 MSRP sheet is an earlier reference and explicitly says prices may change without notice. Neither document confirms what a buyer will pay in October.
Why the price rises are two separate events
The S26’s base and Plus models were already more expensive at US launch than their predecessors. The Associated Press described those launch prices as $100 above comparable phones released in each of the previous two years; the Ultra remained at $1,299 at launch. AP characterized the increase on the base and mid-tier models as 10% to 13%. These launch comparisons are distinct from the additional October changes reported by Tom’s Guide.

Samsung said US general availability began March 11, 2026. Launch pricing and later reported list pricing should not be collapsed into one increase: a buyer comparing the S26 with an older generation needs to account for both, while a buyer tracking the phone since launch is looking at the additional reported change.
How to decide whether to upgrade or wait
Work out the cost of your own route rather than treating a trade-in headline or MSRP as your final price. Compare the full cost of buying now with the cost of keeping your current phone, including any carrier-plan requirements or financing obligations.

- Record the exact configuration price. Compare the same S26 model and storage tier across Samsung, retailers, and your carrier.
- Calculate your net price. Subtract only a trade-in or retailer discount you are eligible to receive. Note the device condition rules and offer period.
- Price carrier credits over their full term. Check the required plan, monthly bill credits, and what happens if you leave or change plans before credits finish.
- Compare against keeping your phone. If your current device still meets your needs, its value includes avoiding the purchase and any associated plan or protection costs.
- Decide whether the upgrade solves a real need. A specific benefit you will use can matter more than a general claim that a newer phone is better value.
Samsung advertised up to $900 in eligible instant trade-in credit, or $150 toward other eligible devices without trade-in, during the US launch. That was a limited launch offer, not evidence of a live October promotion. Likewise, an advertised maximum trade-in value is not what every buyer receives.
If you do not need a phone immediately, waiting lets you compare a later real checkout price with today’s. The available evidence does not establish whether or when prices will fall, or by how much; waiting is an option, not a guaranteed saving.

Which S26 model fits your needs?
The S26 and S26+ are not simply the same phone at different prices. Samsung UK lists the S26 with a 6.3-inch display and typical 4,300mAh battery, and the S26+ with a 6.7-inch display and typical 4,900mAh battery. Both have 256GB and 512GB storage options. Those are UK product specifications, useful for comparing size and capacity but not proof that either model is worth its price to every buyer.
The Ultra starts at a higher price and offers its own features. Samsung’s US launch announcement identifies a built-in Privacy Display and a customized chipset among its Ultra-specific features, and says the series receives seven years of security updates. These are manufacturer-stated product details, not an independent measure of whether the price premium is worthwhile.

What buyers outside the US should know
The October price report cited above concerns US pricing. For regional context only, Samsung UK announced February 2026 launch RRPs of £879 for the 256GB S26, £1,099 for the 256GB S26+, and £1,279 for the S26 Ultra. Those are launch figures, not verified current UK prices.
Samsung UK also advertised launch-period selected-phone trade-in discounts ranging from £10 to £437 for S26, £10 to £542 for S26+, and £10 to £607 for Ultra. Offer eligibility and timing matter, so those figures should not be treated as current discounts. The UK launch announcement described New Galaxy Club as returning a guaranteed 50% of the device price when upgrading between months 12 and 15, alongside Samsung Care+ accidental-damage protection and 24-month 0% financing via Klarna; check current program terms and eligibility before relying on those details.
