For Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer, treat Black Ops 7 as a progression reset: a Windows Central explainer dated October 1, 2026, reports that BO7 weapons, progress and most cosmetics will not transfer. It names a few exceptions, including unspent 2XP tokens and certain pre-order rewards. Warzone is different: Activision says legacy items from earlier games, including BO7, will remain available there under its Season 1 rules.
What carries from Black Ops 7 into MW4 multiplayer?
The MW4-specific rules below were reported by Windows Central on October 1, 2026. They are not presented here as a confirmed Activision launch FAQ, so check Activision’s current announcements for any changes. The Warzone rules are from Activision’s own Season 1 notice.

How do legacy weapons and cosmetics work in Warzone?
Activision says operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain in Warzone starting with Season 1, along with the skins, blueprints and camos earned or purchased for them. The older weapons appear in the loadout menu’s Legacy tab.
Legacy weapon limits
- Legacy weapons remain usable, but Gunsmith functionality and previously saved custom loadouts are not supported.
- Activision says each legacy base weapon will have a five-attachment version. Existing blueprints keep their attachment setups.
Hiding other players’ legacy operator skins
A new operator-skin toggle can show other players using MW4 operators instead of their legacy skins on your screen. It is off by default and does not change the operator you have equipped.

What should BO7 players do before switching games?
- Claim any available free 2XP tokens and decide whether to save unused tokens for MW4.
- Before spending on BO7 cosmetics, consider whether you mainly play MW4 multiplayer or Warzone; the reported transfer rules differ by mode.
- Confirm which platform you will use before buying COD Points, since the reported carry-forward rule depends on staying on the same platform and store restrictions apply.
- Check the specific MW4 pre-order terms for your edition and platform if you are counting on the reported operator or camo exceptions.
- Recheck Activision announcements for updated carry-forward, reward and account-linking details before launch.
When does MW4 launch, and where can you play?
Activision lists the MW4 launch date as October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Windows Central’s October 1 explainer reports campaign early access beginning October 16 for digital pre-orders. Activision also says Warzone support on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ends when Season 1 begins. These dates and platform details help distinguish MW4’s own progression from the separate Warzone legacy system.
