What Perm Press does
Perm Press is a drying cycle—not a separate anti-wrinkle feature. Samsung describes it for fabrics designed to resist creasing, including wrinkle-free cottons, synthetics, knits and permanent-press materials. The dryer varies heat and duration during the cycle, followed by an extended cool-down with no heat. That gradual finish reduces the chance that clothes remain hot and compressed in the drum.

Which clothes belong in Perm Press?
Good candidates
- Permanent-press shirts, trousers and uniforms
- Synthetic fabrics such as polyester blends
- Wrinkle-free cotton garments
- Knits whose care labels allow tumble drying
- Lightweight cottons marked “Tumble Dry Medium”
Check before loading
- Read every garment’s care label. “Do not tumble dry,” low-heat-only and line-dry instructions override the cycle name.
- Separate items that need different heat levels or drying times.
- Do not assume a fabric is suitable merely because it looks wrinkle-resistant; fiber blends and finishes vary.
What temperature does Perm Press use?
Samsung’s general guidance places medium heat at approximately 130–133°F for permanent-press fabrics, synthetics, lightweight cottons and items labeled “Tumble Dry Medium.” That range is general guidance, not a guaranteed temperature for every Perm Press program. Actual heat exposure can vary by dryer model, sensor readings, load size and selected options, so use the care label and your model’s manual as the controlling instructions.
Perm Press versus Wrinkle Prevent

Using Perm Press does not automatically mean Wrinkle Prevent is enabled. If your dryer offers both, select Wrinkle Prevent separately when you expect a delay before unloading.

How to choose and use the cycle
- Read the labels. Confirm that each item permits tumble drying and medium or equivalent heat.
- Sort the load. Keep heavy towels, denim and items requiring high heat out of a Perm Press load.
- Select Perm Press. Use the cycle on the dryer’s control panel. Available options and names differ by model.
- Set only compatible options. Follow the model manual’s cycle chart; some settings are unavailable with particular cycles.
- Add Wrinkle Prevent if needed. Treat it as a separate, no-heat post-cycle option rather than part of Perm Press.
- Unload promptly. Remove garments when the cycle ends, reshape them and hang or fold them to preserve the wrinkle-resistant finish.
Why your Samsung dryer may behave differently
Samsung’s cycle charts and available settings vary by model and market. For example, U.S. model DVE47CG3500WA3 lists Perm Press as a Sensor Dry cycle. That confirms the cycle on that model; it does not establish that every Samsung dryer uses the same sensor classification, temperature profile or options. Use the appendix or cycle chart in your dryer’s user manual to verify compatible settings.
Common mistakes and fixes
Clothes are still damp
Check that the load is not tightly packed, clean the lint filter and verify that the garments actually belong in a medium-heat tumble-dry cycle. Sensor programs can end when the dryer detects its target dryness, which may differ from what you expect for mixed fabrics.
Clothes are wrinkled
Unload promptly and avoid overloading. Wrinkle Prevent can keep completed items moving without heat, but it cannot remove deep wrinkles created by leaving hot laundry compressed for a long period.
The option is missing
Look up your exact model number in its manual. Perm Press, Wrinkle Prevent and their adjustable durations are not universal across Samsung dryers.
