To magnify your Mac screen, open Apple menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turn on a control method. Use keyboard shortcuts, a three-finger trackpad gesture, or a modifier key while scrolling with a mouse. macOS includes Zoom, so you do not need a separate magnification app.
Choose how to magnify the screen
macOS offers temporary screen magnification with several input methods. The right one depends on whether you want to enlarge the whole display or inspect a smaller area, and whether you use a keyboard, trackpad, or mouse.

Apple describes the built-in controls as ways to zoom in and out using “the keyboard or trackpad, or the keyboard and mouse.” Apple’s Mac user guide explains the Zoom controls.
Turn on keyboard zoom and use its shortcuts
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.
- Turn on Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.
- Press Option-Command-Plus Sign (+) to zoom in.
- Press Option-Command-Minus Sign (–) to zoom out.
- Press Option-Command-8 to switch between zoomed and unzoomed views.
If the shortcuts do not respond, return to Accessibility > Zoom and check that keyboard shortcuts are enabled.

Zoom with a trackpad
- Go to Apple menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.
- Turn on Use trackpad gesture to zoom.
- Double-tap with three fingers to toggle zoom.
- To adjust magnification gradually, double-tap with three fingers and drag.
Zoom with a mouse or scroll wheel
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.
- Turn on Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom.
- Choose Control, Option, or Command as the modifier.
- Hold that key while scrolling to change magnification.
Choose the Zoom style that fits what you are viewing
The Zoom style controls which part of the screen is enlarged and how it appears. Select the style in Accessibility > Zoom.
Full Screen
Magnifies the entire display. This is useful when you need a larger view of everything on that screen.

Make text and interface elements larger all the time
Zoom is intended for changing magnification as needed. If you want a persistently larger interface, use the display options instead:
- Text Size: Accessibility > Display has Text Size controls for enlarging text across supported apps, desktop items, and sidebars. The change applies only where those controls are supported.
- Larger interface: In Displays settings, choose a lower resolution or a Larger Text option, where available, so interface elements appear larger.
Pinch or tap gestures can also enlarge images, webpages, and PDFs in compatible apps. That changes the view in the app rather than magnifying the whole Mac display.

Adjust pointer, focus, and multi-display behavior
Open Accessibility > Zoom > Advanced for controls that tailor magnification to your setup. These include how the zoomed image follows the pointer, whether it follows keyboard focus, image smoothing, zoom-window shortcuts, a rapid-zoom range, and independent zoom on multiple displays.
Apple also documents selecting a display for Full Screen zoom and moving the pointer between monitors. In macOS 15.1 or later, turn on Show zoomed image while screen sharing if you want meeting participants to see the magnified image while you share your screen. Apple’s guide to advanced Zoom options covers these settings.
Use Zoom on a Mac with a Touch Bar
If your Mac has a Touch Bar, enable Touch Bar zoom in Accessibility > Zoom. Hold a finger on the Touch Bar to show an enlarged version. To adjust its magnification, hold Command while pinching with two fingers. Touch Bar zoom is unavailable while VoiceOver is active. Apple’s Touch Bar zoom instructions provide the specific controls.
