AppleCare+ customers reportedly pay $19 to replace the iPhone Duo’s matte cover layer. That figure comes from an October 2, 2026 Android Authority report and has not been confirmed in an Apple pricing or support document. Apple’s price for customers without AppleCare+ is not established. Samsung’s current US terms are clearer: eligible Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip owners receive one no-charge inner-screen-protector replacement within the first year, followed by replacements priced at $19.99 plus tax.
What the $19 iPhone Duo figure actually means
The reported $19 amount applies to the iPhone Duo’s matte outer cover layer when the owner has AppleCare+. It is not a quoted price for replacing the entire folding display, and it should not be treated as a universal Apple service price.
Android Authority’s October 2, 2026 report says Apple had not published or disclosed the corresponding out-of-coverage price. The report attributes the layer’s replaceability to Apple hardware engineering vice president Kate Bergeron, who said: “It’s actually replaceable, which is a really nice thing for the customer that you can peel off that layer and get a new one.” That statement establishes that the layer can be replaced, but it does not document an owner-performed procedure, an official service workflow, or a retail replacement part.
Samsung’s published US offer
Samsung’s official US terms cover a model-specific inner-screen protector on eligible Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip devices. The offer is tied to qualifying original purchasers and service through Samsung or an authorized provider.

| Later replacement | Not stated by Apple or independently verified in the cited report | $19.99 plus tax under the published US terms; location variation may apply |

| Geography | AppleCare+ report does not establish a worldwide price | United States offer; eligibility and availability can vary by model, location and purchase source |
Why Samsung has the clearer cost advantage
For a qualifying US Samsung owner, the first replacement costs nothing during the one-year eligibility window. Even after that, the listed $19.99 charge is close to the reported AppleCare+ figure, while Apple’s non-AppleCare+ price remains unknown. Samsung therefore has the more favorable documented first-replacement policy and the more transparent published follow-up price.
The comparison is limited, however. Apple’s $19 is a secondary-reported AppleCare+ amount, whereas Samsung’s figures come from official US offer terms. They may also involve different plan rules, taxes and service conditions, so they should not be presented as a universal ownership-cost comparison.

These are protective-layer replacements, not screen repairs
A foldable phone’s protective film or matte cover layer sits above the display panel. Damage to the panel, hinge or other display components can require a different repair and a different price. Neither the reported iPhone Duo amount nor Samsung’s $19.99 figure establishes the cost of repairing the complete screen assembly.
Do not treat “peel off” as a DIY instruction
The Apple quotation indicates that the Duo layer is replaceable, but the cited report does not say that owners should remove it themselves or explain how an official replacement is carried out. No compatible third-party iPhone Duo film or tool set is established here.

Samsung is explicit about its own foldable protector. Its support guidance says: “No; we recommend having an authorized specialist with the proper equipment to align and apply the screen protector without causing any damage to the display.” The protector is specially made for foldable displays, so a generic matte film or an incorrectly sized listing is not an equivalent replacement.
What to verify before booking service
- Confirm the layer. Determine whether the problem is the removable protective layer or damage to the actual display.
- Check coverage. For iPhone Duo, verify that AppleCare+ is active before relying on the reported $19 amount. For Samsung, confirm the exact Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip model, original-purchaser status and one-year eligibility window.
- Confirm the region. Samsung’s cited offer is US-only; prices and terms elsewhere may differ.
- Use an authorized provider. Samsung requires or recommends authorized application with suitable alignment equipment. Apple’s official service path and out-of-coverage price should be obtained directly from Apple before authorizing work.
- Ask for the complete estimate. Confirm whether tax, inspection, shipping or any related service charge is added to the layer replacement.
Bottom line for iPhone Duo owners
If you have AppleCare+, the best available figure is a reported $19 replacement for the matte layer. Without AppleCare+, there is no verified price in the available Apple information, so contact Apple for a current quote rather than assuming the same charge. Samsung’s US policy is currently the stronger documented offer: one eligible replacement is free within the first year, and later protector replacements are listed at $19.99 plus tax.
