Consolidating audio controls in Samsung’s broader smart-home app could mean one fewer app to manage, though the available reporting does not confirm that every device or control will carry over unchanged.
What is changing with Samsung Sound?
Samsung Sound is a dedicated setup and control app for certain Samsung audio products. SamMobile and SammyGuru reported on October 1, 2026, that an in-app notice tells users the service will shut down on March 31, 2027, and directs them to transition to SmartThings. The reports say users will register devices in SmartThings to continue setup and control. SamMobile’s report and SammyGuru’s report attribute the date and instructions to that notice; the reporting available here does not include a Samsung-hosted shutdown announcement.
SamMobile describes Samsung Sound’s scope as Samsung soundbars and wireless speakers with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi released in 2024 or later. That is a broad description, not a model-by-model compatibility list. Check whether your specific product appears in SmartThings rather than assuming every device in that category will migrate in exactly the same way.
Why move audio controls into SmartThings?
SmartThings is Samsung’s wider app for connecting and controlling compatible TVs, appliances, wearables, and other smart devices. Its support documentation lists device management, routines, connected services, settings, and notifications among its functions. Samsung’s SmartThings support page describes that broader role.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by SmartThings: Connect, monitor, and automate your home through the SmartThings app. Build a reliable, unified smart home using Samsung's proven ecosystem
- Matter + Zigbee Smart Home Hub: Supports the newest Matter standard plus Zigbee for lighting, sensors, plugs, switches, thermostats, and more - thousands of compatible devices. PLEASE NOTE: Z-Wave not supported
- Easy Setup with Wi-Fi or Ethernet: Get started in minutes using Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection for apartments, houses, and expanding smart home systems - Z-Wave not supported
- Automations That Work for You: Create custom routines for security, lighting, comfort, and energy savings. Many local automations continue working even if your internet goes offline
- Wide Device Compatibility: Connect compatible smart devices from Aeotec and many other brands to build a unified system for lighting, voice control, energy management, and climate settings
Putting compatible audio products in the same app can simplify management for people who already use SmartThings. It also avoids keeping a separate app just for audio. That is a practical convenience, not proof that everyone will prefer the change or that SmartThings will reproduce every Sound feature for every product.
What should Samsung Sound users check?
- Find your exact model. Check the product name or model number on the soundbar or speaker, its packaging, or its existing app listing.
- Look for it in SmartThings. The reports identify SmartThings as the destination for device registration, but do not provide exact, model-specific migration steps. Confirm that your device can be added before relying on the app for setup or daily control.
- Check the controls you actually use. SammyGuru describes Sound as offering controls such as volume and equalizer settings, while noting that SmartThings offered some controls Sound lacked. Neither report establishes feature parity after the move, so verify the options available for your model.
- Follow the in-app notice for the transition. The reported shutdown date is March 31, 2027. If you receive the notice, use its instructions and allow time to confirm that the device works in SmartThings before the deadline.
Does this mean you need a new soundbar or speaker?
No. The announced change, as reported, is an app shutdown and a move to SmartThings—not a requirement to replace your audio hardware. Whether your current device works with SmartThings depends on its compatibility; the reporting does not give a complete supported-model list or guarantee identical controls across models and regions.
