If your Samsung Galaxy won’t charge, first check the outlet, charger, cable and connection. Then check for debris or moisture in the charging port, let an overheated phone cool, and review charging settings if it charges slowly or stops early. If those checks do not help, the phone or its charging hardware may need service. Exact settings and accessory compatibility depend on your Galaxy model and software version.
1. Check the outlet, charger and cable
Unplug and reconnect the cable at both ends, making sure it is fully seated. Try another wall outlet, then test with a known-good charger and cable that are compatible with your exact Galaxy model. Check your current accessories for visible damage; a frayed cable, loose connector or faulty adapter can interrupt charging.
If the phone charges from a wall outlet but not a computer, the power source may be the difference. Samsung notes that fast charging may not work when charging from a PC or standard USB device. A computer connection that charges slowly does not necessarily mean the phone or its battery is faulty. See Samsung’s fast-charging guidance and advice on charging from a PC.
There is no single charger specification that can be assumed to suit every Galaxy. Check compatibility for your model before replacing an accessory.

2. Check the charging port for debris
Turn off the phone and use a light to look inside the charging port. Dust or lint can prevent the connector from making proper contact. Samsung advises carefully removing visible debris without using metal objects or liquids. Do not force a tool into the port; if debris is lodged inside, or the port looks damaged, have it inspected professionally. Samsung’s troubleshooting steps cover port checks and cleaning precautions.
3. Stop charging if moisture is detected
If a water-drop icon or moisture warning appears, disconnect the charger. Galaxy phones can stop charging when moisture is detected to help protect the device from damage—even water-resistant models need a completely dry charging port before wired charging resumes. Power the phone off and let it dry fully. Do not keep plugging in the cable to test it while the port may still be wet. 4. Let an overheated phone cool
A Galaxy phone that is too hot may charge more slowly or pause charging temporarily. Disconnect it from power and let it cool before trying again. Samsung’s Canada support guidance describes temperature as a possible cause of reduced charging speed. Settings and on-screen messages vary by model and software version, so follow the labels on your device rather than relying on a universal menu path.
5. Review settings when charging is slow or stops early
Check Fast charging
If ordinary charging works but is slower than expected, confirm that your model supports fast charging and that the feature is enabled. On supported phones, look in the Battery charging settings for Fast charging. In Samsung’s guidance, Galaxy S23 series and later combine Fast charging and Super fast charging in one setting. Available options depend on the device and software; enabling a setting cannot make unsupported hardware charge faster. See Samsung’s fast-charging instructions.

Check Battery protection
If charging stops at a particular level, review Battery protection settings. A selected charging limit may be expected behavior rather than a fault. The setting’s availability and labels vary by model and software version; consult the on-device Battery settings and Samsung’s support guidance.

If compatible accessories, a suitable power source, a clear dry port and cooling do not restore charging, contact Samsung Support or visit a Samsung service center for inspection. Persistent failure—or a major reduction in how long the battery lasts—can point to a hardware problem, but these symptoms alone do not identify which component has failed. Samsung Members Phone diagnostics can check cable-charging condition on supported software. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance recommends service when the problem persists.
