Lenovo makes smartphones, but it does not make Apple’s iPhone. Lenovo’s main modern smartphone brand is Motorola, which Lenovo acquired in 2014; Lenovo also has Lenovo-branded phones such as the business-focused ThinkPhone by Motorola and historical or regional lines including Legion Phone Duel and K-series models.
Why people ask about “Lenovo’s iPhone”
“Lenovo’s iPhone” is not an official product name. Apple makes the iPhone; Lenovo does not own or produce it. The phrase is best understood as a shorthand question about what phones Lenovo makes and what those phones are called.
The key distinction is between ownership and branding: Lenovo owns Motorola Mobility, but many of its current smartphones are sold under the Motorola name. Lenovo-branded phones also appear in particular product lines and regional catalogs.
How Motorola became central to Lenovo’s phone business
Lenovo completed its acquisition of Motorola Mobility from Google on 30 October 2014. The portfolio included Moto X, Moto G, Moto E, and DROID. At the time, Lenovo described itself as the world’s third-largest smartphone maker—a historical ranking tied to the acquisition’s close, not a current market position.

Lenovo chairman and chief executive Yang Yuanqing called the deal “Today we achieved a historic milestone for Lenovo and for Motorola – and together we are ready to compete, grow and win in the global smartphone market.” Lenovo’s corporate history and investor materials continue to present the Motorola acquisition as a major step in the company’s expansion beyond PCs.
In Lenovo’s 5 September 2025 portfolio framing, Motorola smartphones were part of a broader AI-powered range spanning consumer, business, and mobile devices, with products at multiple price points. On 6 January 2026, Lenovo announced new Motorola premium smartphones and described Lenovo-Motorola Qira AI as a direction for connecting experiences across devices. These announcements reinforce Motorola’s role in the portfolio; they do not make every phone a Lenovo-branded product.

Which Lenovo-linked phone lines matter?
| Phone line | Brand and audience | What is established | Availability and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moto families, including Moto X, Moto G, Moto E, and DROID | Motorola consumer phones | These families were part of the Motorola portfolio Lenovo acquired in 2014. Lenovo’s later materials continue to position Motorola as its main consumer smartphone brand. | The 2014 acquisition announcement establishes the portfolio at that time; it does not establish which models are currently sold in a particular country. |
| ThinkPhone by Motorola | Business-focused, Lenovo-linked phone | Motorola introduced it as a business smartphone, highlighting 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and PC-mobile integration. | Configuration and availability may vary by market; check the local product listing for a specific version. |
| Lenovo Legion Phone Duel | Lenovo-branded gaming phone | Lenovo’s support catalog documents the model as part of its historical gaming-phone line. | Treat it as a historical or regional product unless a current local Lenovo listing confirms sale. |
| Lenovo K-series, including K10 | Lenovo-branded regional phones | Lenovo’s support sitemap lists the K10, establishing that Lenovo-branded phones appeared in regional catalogs. | A support entry proves catalog presence, not current worldwide availability. |
What makes ThinkPhone different?
ThinkPhone by Motorola is the clearest Lenovo-linked option for readers looking for a business-oriented phone rather than a general consumer or gaming model. Motorola’s announcement emphasized its relationship to the Think business identity, 5G and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and continuity between PCs and mobile devices. Those points describe its positioning; they should not be taken as a guarantee that every configuration or feature is sold in every country.
For an exact-model decision, compare the phone’s local specifications, business-management support, security and software policy, and compatibility with the PCs or services your organization uses. Lenovo’s portfolio announcements do not establish one software-support duration, Android version, or configuration that applies to all Lenovo-linked phones.

How to choose the right Lenovo-linked phone
Start with the use case and exact model, not the phrase “Lenovo phone.” Motorola consumer families, ThinkPhone, and Lenovo’s historical gaming or regional lines serve different audiences. Before buying, verify these details for the model and country you are considering:
- Brand and support: Confirm whether the phone is sold as Motorola or Lenovo and identify the support channel serving your market.
- Performance and camera: Compare specifications for the exact model and generation; the product-family name alone does not establish a particular performance or camera tier.
- Battery and charging: Check the local specification sheet for capacity and charging details rather than assuming those are consistent across a series.
- Software and security: Look for the exact model’s Android version, update commitments, and security policy. No uniform support duration is established across all Lenovo-linked phones.
- Integration: If you need business or PC-mobile continuity, assess ThinkPhone’s stated integration features against your specific Lenovo PC and enterprise setup.
- Availability and price: Confirm current local stock, configuration, and price. A regional support listing or historical announcement does not prove that a phone is currently sold worldwide.
What Lenovo’s phone history does—and does not—tell you
Lenovo’s Motorola acquisition explains why the company has a substantial smartphone presence despite many of its phones carrying Motorola branding. Lenovo has also used its own name for products such as ThinkPhone, Legion Phone Duel, and regional K-series devices. That history does not mean Lenovo makes Apple’s iPhone, that every Lenovo-linked line remains on sale, or that one update policy or market ranking applies across the portfolio.

Lenovo’s 2014 “third-largest smartphone maker” description belongs to the moment the Motorola acquisition closed. It should not be presented as a current ranking. Likewise, the available corporate and support information does not establish a current global market-share percentage, a complete worldwide model count, or a single software-support duration for every Lenovo-linked phone.
