Yes. In Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey, Meta Quest 3 is the largest named headset entry at 26.90%, ahead of Oculus Quest 2 at 25.80%. These figures describe headset entries in Steam’s optional, anonymous survey—not worldwide ownership, headset sales, or all VR users. Steam Frame does not appear as a named entry in that month’s table.
Quest 3 leads Quest 2 in Steam’s September survey
Valve’s September 2026 VR Headsets table puts Meta Quest 3 first among the named entries, 1.10 percentage points ahead of Oculus Quest 2.
| Headset | September 2026 reported share | Change from previous month |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Quest 3 | 26.90% | +0.89 percentage points |
| Oculus Quest 2 | 25.80% | −1.17 percentage points |
| Meta Quest 3S | 11.07% | −0.42 percentage points |
| Valve Index HMD | 10.83% | −0.25 percentage points |
The monthly changes are percentage-point changes, not percentage growth rates. The table’s figures are survey shares; they are not a ranking of units sold or a measure of how many people worldwide own each headset.
What the Steam survey figures measure
Valve says its monthly hardware and software survey is optional and anonymous. The September table therefore shows the distribution reported in Steam’s survey, not a census of every Steam customer or VR headset owner. Valve’s page does not provide a response count or confidence interval alongside these headset figures, so the exact degree of sampling uncertainty cannot be calculated from the published table.

A Quest 3 leading this table means it is the most common named entry in this survey for that month. It does not by itself show that Quest 3 is the best headset, that it leads all VR platforms, or that Quest 3 outsold Quest 2 in September.
Why Steam Frame is not shown as a named entry
Valve’s September 2026 table has no named Steam Frame row. That establishes only what appears in the table; it does not explain the omission or prove that no one is using the headset. Because participation is optional and anonymous, and Valve publishes no response-level detail here, the table cannot answer why a product is absent.

Valve introduced Steam Frame in its November 12, 2025 hardware announcement as hardware coming in 2026. In a June 4, 2026 Steamworks announcement, Valve said its new hardware would ship “this summer.” That was a shipping expectation stated at the time, not confirmation that retail shipments occurred. The official sources cited here do not establish Steam Frame’s actual retail launch date, final consumer price, or availability as of October 2, 2026.

Valve’s Steam Frame documentation describes a standalone VR headset designed primarily for low-latency streaming of a player’s Steam library from a PC, with support for standalone VR and non-VR experiences. Valve says it runs SteamOS and supports SteamVR and OpenXR. Its June announcement also described Steam Frame Standalone Verified, a program for identifying games that work well when run directly on the headset.

That positioning makes Steam Frame different from a device described only by its survey rank: Valve presents it as a PC-streaming-first headset that can also run games on its own. The absence of a survey row cannot establish how it compares with Quest 3 in real-world use, and confirmed price and retail availability are not established by the official sources above.
