Starlink removed the invitation requirement for its Gen 3 dish in the United States on December 20, 2023, according to TeslaNorth’s report from that date. That was a historical availability change, not a promise that every address can order the same hardware today. Starlink now identifies the former Gen 3 hardware as Standard 4, while the current Standard Kit is named Standard 4 X.
What “available without invite” meant
On December 20, 2023, TeslaNorth reported that US customers could purchase Starlink’s Gen 3 dish without an invitation. The report described the prices, plans and ordering conditions available at that time; those details should not be treated as current.
Starlink availability is assigned by service address. A no-invite report from 2023 does not establish that the same kit, plan or promotion is available in every country or at every US address in 2026.
Is Starlink Standard 4 the Gen 3 dish?
Yes, in Starlink’s current terminology. Its Help Center states: “Note: Standard 4 refers to the same hardware many customers previously called ‘Gen 3 Starlink.’” Starlink’s current product pages call the renamed Standard Kit Standard 4 X.

What is in the current Standard kit?
Starlink’s current specifications list these components:
- Starlink terminal (dish)
- Kickstand
- Gen 3 router
- Starlink cable
- AC cable
- Power supply
The router is specified as Wi‑Fi 6 and has two latching Ethernet LAN ports. Starlink also states that this system is not compatible with third-party mesh systems.

Published hardware specifications
| Specification | Published figure or limitation | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Router coverage | Up to 297 m² (3,200 ft²) | Starlink manufacturer specification, 2026; not an independent test |
| Wired networking | Two latching Ethernet LAN ports | Starlink specification, 2026 |
| Wireless standard | Wi‑Fi 6 | Starlink specification |
| Mesh support | Not compatible with third-party mesh systems | Starlink specification |
There is no verified independent comparison establishing that this dish generation delivers faster service than another Starlink generation. Service performance also depends on your plan, network load, obstructions and installation, so the hardware name alone is not a speed guarantee.
How to check whether you can order one now
- Open Starlink’s ordering page and enter the exact service address where the dish will be used.
- Review the kit name shown for that address. It may use Standard 4 X or another regional designation rather than “Gen 3.”
- Check the eligible service plans, one-time equipment charge, recurring service charge, taxes, shipping and any displayed promotion.
- Confirm that the listed hardware suits your installation, including clear-sky placement and the cable route to the router.
- Save the checkout summary. Availability, prices, promotions and eligible plans can change after the 2023 report.
Installation and mounting considerations
The included kickstand supports a basic placement, but a permanent installation may require a separate mount. Starlink says permanent mounts are available through its Shop after a kit is ordered. Verify compatibility with the exact current terminal before buying an older or third-party mount; the available evidence does not establish universal fit across generations.
Rank #3
- Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
- Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
- Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
- High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
- Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.
Plan for an unobstructed view of the sky, a safe location for the terminal, weather-protected cable routing and an indoor position for the router. The published 3,200-square-foot coverage figure is a manufacturer estimate, so building materials, floor layout and interference can reduce practical coverage.
What to compare before choosing the kit
If you are comparing Standard 4/Standard 4 X with another Starlink generation or with a terrestrial connection, evaluate the complete offer rather than the Gen 3 label.
Rank #4
- ADJUSTABLE: Our starlink standard 4 mount features a retractable design with a support arm that telescopes up and down, back and forth, providing more versatility than a fixed length mount. Seamlessly compatible with your current Starlink Gen 3 mount, you'll enjoy an unobstructed view no matter where you place it
- HIGH QUALITY: Our Starlink Wall Mounts for Dishes is made of top-grade metal to ensure a long life and can withstand over 60 pounds of weight. - EASY INSTALLATION: This starlink wall mount standard 4 is simple to install. Simply drill the holes, secure the brackets, and plug directly into the Starlink Gen 3. This flexibility makes it an essential component for starlink mounts. The length of the mounting plate is 5.9 in/15cm, and the width is 5.11 in/13cm
- Address eligibility: Confirm that the service and plan are offered at your location.
- Included equipment: Compare the terminal, router, stand, cables and power supply.
- Network features: Check Wi‑Fi generation, Ethernet ports and mesh-system restrictions.
- Installation: Account for clear-sky placement, cable length and any permanent mount.
- Total current cost: Use the checkout total and current recurring plan price for your address; historical 2023 figures are not reliable today.
- Performance evidence: Treat manufacturer specifications separately from independent speed testing, which has not been established here.
Bottom line
The headline is accurate as a US historical event: Starlink’s Gen 3 dish became orderable without an invitation on December 20, 2023. In current Starlink naming, that hardware is associated with Standard 4, while the Standard Kit is called Standard 4 X. To determine what you can actually buy, enter your service address on Starlink’s current checkout and verify the displayed kit, plan, compatibility and total cost.
