Yes. Pikoo is a narrower RP2040 development board that retains the Raspberry Pi Pico’s 40-position, 2.54 mm header layout. Hackster reports a width of 15 mm, versus 21 mm for the Pico, plus a USB-C connector. It may suit a tight enclosure where the Pico is too wide, but confirm the board’s current availability and dimensions before designing around it.

What changes between Pikoo and Raspberry Pi Pico?

The key difference is the board’s physical width and connector: Hackster describes Pikoo as 15 mm wide and equipped with USB-C, while the Raspberry Pi Pico is 21 mm wide. Pikoo keeps the full 40-position header arrangement at 2.54 mm pitch, so it preserves the Pico-style physical pin layout.

Feature Pikoo Raspberry Pi Pico
Width 15 mm (Hackster report) 21 mm (Hackster report)
Header layout 40 positions, 2.54 mm pitch (Hackster report) 40-pin header; 2.54 mm pitch (Raspberry Pi documentation)
GPIO pins Hackster reports the Pico-compatible pin arrangement and RP2040 peripheral access, but does not separately state a GPIO count for the board. 26 multifunction GPIO pins (Raspberry Pi documentation)
USB connector USB-C (Hackster report) Not stated in the cited Raspberry Pi documentation.
Microcontroller RP2040 (Hackster report) RP2040 (Raspberry Pi documentation)

The 40 header positions are not the same thing as 40 GPIOs. Raspberry Pi documents 26 multifunction GPIO pins on the original Pico; the remaining positions serve other functions, such as power and ground. Check the board pinout before wiring rather than assuming every header position is a GPIO.

Will Pico code and hardware work on Pikoo?

Hackster’s report says, “If code runs on a Pico, it will run on Pikoo as well.” That is the article’s compatibility claim; it is not an independent validation of every project or accessory. The report lists MicroPython, CircuitPython, the official Raspberry Pi Pico SDK for C and C++, and Arduino IDE support, along with UF2 drag-and-drop programming and USB CDC serial, HID, and custom USB classes.

  • The Raspberry Pi Pico is a beginner-friendly microcontroller board that uses MicroPython to give you a taste of the Internet of Things and microcontrollers. The RP2040 is a well-designed microprocessor that can be utilized in almost any Internet of Things project. It has enough power to complete the task quickly.
  • 【Raspberry Pi RP2040 Microcontroller】Raspberry Pi Pico features Dual-core ARM Cortex M0+ processor, flexible clock running up to 133 MHz. With 264KB of SRAM, and 2MB of on-board Flash memory.Supports up to 16 MB of off chip flash memory via a dedicated QSPI bus
  • 【Multiple Software Support】Pico has rich and complete software support, it comes with a complete Rasberry Pi official C/C++ SDK, Micropython SDK.The programming and burning of Pico need to be carried out on the computer. Supported operating systems and computers include:Raspberry Pie with Raspberry Pi OS,Other platforms equipped with Debian based Linux system Computer with MacOS, Computers with Windows, etc.
  • 【Rich Hardware Interface】Raspberry Pi Pico has 30 GPIO pins, 4 pins for analog signal input and 26 × multi-function GPIO pins, 2 × SPI, 2 × I2C, 2 × UART, 3 × 12-bit ADC, 16 × controllable PWM channels.USB 1.1 supported by host and device, The installation mode can be flexibly selected by users to facilitate welding with other development boards.
  • 【Build Project in Tiny Size】Only 2.1cm*5.1cm ( as small as your thumb). Pico has been designed to use either soldered 0.1" pin-headers or can be used as a surface-mountable 'module'.

Pikoo uses the RP2040 dual-core Cortex-M0+ microcontroller, reported at up to 133 MHz with 264 KB of on-chip SRAM. Hackster says it exposes RP2040 peripherals including SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, and programmable I/O (PIO). These shared foundations make existing Pico projects a plausible starting point, but check connector clearance, board dimensions, pin numbering, and any project-specific hardware requirements before substituting it.

When does Pikoo’s narrower width matter?

A 15 mm-wide board can fit some narrow enclosures and mechanical spaces that cannot accommodate a 21 mm Pico. The benefit is mechanical rather than a documented performance improvement: the report does not provide independent electrical, thermal, or reliability test results.

What to check before buying

Hackster reported that Pikoo could be obtained through Kickstarter for about $14 at the time of its article. That is historical context, not a current price or confirmation of an active production run. The available information does not establish a current retailer, shipping region, warranty, or continuing availability.

Before ordering, confirm the exact Pikoo model, current seller and price, delivery region, return terms, board dimensions, USB-C clearance, and header population. If a listing does not clearly identify Pikoo, do not assume it is the same board based only on an RP2040 description. For comparison shopping, “Raspberry Pi Pico RP2040 development board” is a supported product phrase, but a generic Pico listing is not a Pikoo listing.

GPIO voltage and wiring safety

The Pico-style layout does not make RP2040 GPIO 5 V tolerant. Raspberry Pi’s GPIO guidance warns against using 5 V with 3.3 V components. It also advises using resistors to limit LED current and not connecting motors directly to GPIO; use an H-bridge or motor controller for a motor.

Raspberry Pi’s documentation says, “You can find a 40-pin GPIO (general-purpose input/output) header on all current Raspberry Pi boards.” That describes the header standard, not a guarantee that every pin is GPIO or that every third-party board has identical implementation details. Follow the board’s pinout and electrical specifications when wiring.
