The trade-off is less rifling production after cmtry’s departure, plus the challenge of building cohesion quickly. As of October 2, 2026, the answer depends on how well FUT balances those gains and costs in matches.
What changed in FUT’s lineup?
FUT announced on October 1, 2026 that it had completed the signing of Álvaro “SunPayus” García from G2. He replaces Ukrainian player Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov as the team’s AWPer. HLTV’s listed post-transfer lineup is dem0n, Krabeni, dziugss, xfl0ud and SunPayus, with coolio as coach; cmtry and lauNX are benched. Insider Gaming reproduced FUT’s announcement: “We are thrilled to announce that Álvaro ‘SunPayus’ García will be our new AWPer.”
SunPayus had been inactive since G2 benched him in June 2026 and later replaced him with r1nkle. His G2 stint began with the BLAST Open London 2025 title, but HLTV described the subsequent results as falling short of consistent playoff success. His résumé offers experience, not a guarantee that the move will translate into results.
Why could SunPayus raise FUT’s ceiling?
He gives the team an experienced primary AWPer
The transfer report characterizes SunPayus as an experienced tier-one AWPer. A reliable AWP presence can shape opening-round choices, hold key sightlines and give teammates a clearer structure around mid-round decisions. FUT’s young roster may benefit from having a veteran reference point when rounds become difficult, though that stabilizing effect has to show up in play.

His calling could ease the mid-round load
SunPayus can also serve as a secondary caller, according to the transfer report. If he and FUT’s existing leaders divide information and decision-making effectively, the team could gain more tactical flexibility and convert more rounds after the opening plan breaks down. The key is whether his input improves decisions without creating uncertainty over who has final say.
HLTV reported FUT’s roster at an average age of 20.3 years. Adding a 27-year-old with major-event experience gives the lineup a substantial age and experience contrast; it does not, by itself, establish that the younger players will perform better.

What might FUT give up by replacing cmtry?
The clearest risk is the balance between AWP impact and rifle damage. HLTV’s signing report calls SunPayus a likely AWP upgrade, but says the change comes at the cost of significantly weaker rifling production relative to the outgoing setup. That means the move cannot be judged only by whether SunPayus gets AWP kills: FUT also needs enough damage and round-winning impact from its rifle players to compensate.
cmtry had meaningful recent results with FUT. HLTV reported that he helped the team win PGL Bucharest in April 2026 and earned a 1.24 rating at that tournament. The same report cited a 1.00 average LAN rating for cmtry in 2026, a sign that the Bucharest peak did not represent his full-year level. The figures show both why he was valuable and why FUT may have wanted greater consistency; they do not settle whether the replacement will improve the team overall.

How much time does FUT have to integrate him?
FUT had roughly three weeks between the signing and the start of PGL Masters Bucharest on October 24, 2026. That is a short window for a new AWPer and potential secondary caller to settle into roles, utility sequences and late-round protocols.
Early results at the event should be read alongside signs of how the team is functioning. A poor placement alone would not explain whether the roster fit has failed, just as a strong finish would not prove the change is sustainable. Role clarity, coordinated utility and communication in late rounds can reveal whether the five players are beginning to operate as a unit.

What evidence will show whether the signing works?
FUT’s first meaningful test is PGL Masters Bucharest. Track four connected questions as the lineup plays:
- Does SunPayus create value with the AWP? Look beyond highlight shots: his opening impact and ability to influence clutch situations will show whether the primary role is giving FUT enough.
- Do mid-round calls lead to better conversions? Watch whether SunPayus’s secondary input helps FUT adapt when the initial plan stalls, and whether players appear coordinated about who is directing the round.
- Can the rifles cover the lost production? Assess the team’s overall damage and round-winning contribution from rifles rather than treating AWP performance as the only measure of the swap.
- Does the lineup stabilize its maps and protocols? A coherent map pool, consistent utility coordination and cleaner late-round decisions would suggest integration is progressing, even before results settle into a clear trend.
These measures separate the intended benefits—AWP quality and added calling—from the main cost, weaker rifling, while accounting for the limited preparation time.

What is the verdict on October 2, 2026?
The signing is strategically coherent but unresolved. FUT has added an experienced AWPer who may also share the mid-round burden, while accepting a real rifling and integration risk. There is no post-signing competitive sample yet to show that SunPayus has improved the team; PGL Masters Bucharest is the first substantial opportunity to assess how the new balance works.
