Mini Text is a small GTK4 and Libadwaita app for editing text you copy or paste—but it does not save or load files. It is best understood as a temporary clipboard scratch pad, not a conventional text editor for notes or documents.

What Mini Text does

The project describes Mini Text as a very small text view for copying, pasting, and editing text. Flathub likewise presents it as an ephemeral scratch pad with minimal editing capabilities. That makes it suitable for holding or adjusting text briefly while you work across other windows, rather than organizing a collection of lasting documents. Mini Text project; Flathub listing.

Does Mini Text save files?

No. Flathub states that Mini Text does not save or load files and handles clipboard content only. Do not use it as the sole home for a note or document you need to reopen later. Once you need persistence, move the text into an editor or notes app that explicitly saves files.

Where its small-window workflow fits

The project recommends keeping Mini Text always on top or available on an always-visible workspace. That can suit a compact scratch area beside other applications, but whether those behaviors are available depends on your desktop environment and window-management setup; the recommendation is not a guarantee of universal desktop support. Editing features and version notes

GTK 4 provides a multiline text-editing framework built around GtkTextBuffer and GtkTextView, and its text-buffer documentation describes support for enabling undo and redo. That is GTK framework capability, not proof that Mini Text exposes every such feature. GTK 4 Text Widget Overview.

Flathub’s notes for version 1.0.0 mention GNOME 47 support and Ctrl+Z for the delete action. Those are historical notes for that release, not confirmation of the current upstream version or the behavior of every current build. The available project and listing information does not establish the latest version or release date. Flathub version history.

Who should use Mini Text?

  • Consider it if you want a compact, temporary place to edit clipboard text and do not need to keep the contents as files.
  • Choose a conventional editor instead if your work depends on saved documents, persistent notes, document organization, or a broader editing workflow.
