On Fedora releases whose configured repositories provide Shutter, open a terminal and run sudo dnf install shutter. Review DNF’s proposed changes and confirm the transaction; after it finishes, launch Shutter from your desktop application menu.

sudo dnf install shutterand enter your password if prompted. -
Review the packages DNF proposes to install, then confirm the transaction when prompted.

When installation completes, open Shutter from the desktop application launcher.

The Shutter project lists DNF as the Fedora installation route, and Fedora Magazine documents the elevated command sudo dnf install shutter: Shutter project and Fedora Magazine.
Fedora 34 and later: package versions depend on the release
The command works only when Shutter is available in the repositories configured for your Fedora release. Fedora’s package listing shows Shutter for recent releases; Fedora 45 package metadata records version 0.99.7-1.fc45, with an update entry dated September 24, 2026. That version is specific to Fedora 45, not a version guarantee for Fedora 34 or every release in between. See the Fedora package listing.

If DNF reports that it cannot find the package, availability may differ for your Fedora release or repository configuration. Check the Fedora package listing for your release and the repositories enabled on your system before trying another source. The cited Fedora guidance does not establish identical availability or versions for every Fedora release from 34 onward.
Dependencies and what Shutter does
DNF resolves and installs dependencies as part of the normal transaction, so you generally do not need to install them separately. Fedora 45 metadata lists dependencies including ImageMagick, ImageMagick-perl, gdk-pixbuf2, perl-Glib-Object-Introspection, and perl-URI.

Shutter is a GTK+ 3-based screenshot application written in Perl. It can capture an area, a window, or the full screen, and includes tools for effects and annotations. Fedora Magazine also describes multi-capture sessions and timed captures of menus and tooltips, plus editing features for highlighting, obscuring sensitive information, and numbering image details. Those feature descriptions are from its 2016 article; they do not establish current compatibility with every Fedora desktop session.
Wayland compatibility
The cited Fedora sources do not establish whether current Shutter versions reliably capture screenshots in Fedora’s Wayland session. If capture does not work as expected, verify the behavior for your specific Fedora and Shutter versions rather than assuming that an older report or feature description applies to your setup.
