Enterprise SASE decisions now involve more than combining networking and security tools. Gartner’s 2026 guidance highlights AI security, postquantum cryptography and sovereign controls as areas where platforms are diverging, while its threat guidance identifies practical risks involving AI applications, deepfakes and software supply chains. Separate vendor survey results from analyst guidance: the eight findings below synthesize those sources, rather than reproduce a single published eight-point list.

1. SASE capabilities still differ across vendors

Gartner’s July 2026 public SASE research abstract describes a maturing market in which core capabilities continue to vary. It identifies AI security, postquantum cryptography and sovereign controls as areas of vendor differentiation. That makes a single overall ranking a poor substitute for evaluating how a platform fits an organization’s security, operating and regulatory requirements.

Gartner names Cato Networks, Check Point Software Technologies, Cisco, Cloudflare, Fortinet, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, iboss, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Sangfor Technologies, Versa Networks and Zscaler in its 2026 research. The public abstract does not provide the detailed strengths and cautions for each vendor, so the list alone does not establish a winner.

Translate platform differences into buyer requirements

  • Define the organization’s required security and networking capabilities before comparing vendors.
  • Assess AI threat coverage, cryptographic transition support, sovereignty and data controls, integration, operational fit and implementation complexity.
  • Validate the shortlisted platform against deployment-specific requirements in a proof of concept.

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant methodology uses Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision as analyst-evaluation dimensions. Those axes can inform market research, but they do not replace an organization’s own requirements or deployment validation.

2. AI security is becoming a platform-selection issue

Gartner’s July 2026 SASE abstract names securing AI as a vendor-differentiation area. Its June 2026 threat guidance describes a wider enterprise attack surface that can include public-facing and internal AI tools, custom agents and third-party integrations. Weak controls around those systems can expose sensitive information or credentials.

Map AI use and control access

  • Inventory AI applications, agents, integrations and the data they can access.
  • Classify data so access rules reflect sensitivity and intended use.
  • Apply purpose-based access controls rather than granting broad access by default.
  • Monitor application behavior at runtime to identify suspicious or unexpected activity.

These measures address AI application risks; they are not evidence that a SASE platform alone prevents them.

3. Postquantum readiness and data sovereignty need specific questions

Gartner’s July 2026 abstract identifies postquantum cryptography and sovereign controls as areas of SASE vendor differentiation. It does not publish detailed requirements or vendor-by-vendor evaluations in the public summary. Treat both as due-diligence topics, not as proof that every organization needs the same features.

Relate each capability to your obligations

  • For postquantum readiness, compare vendor support with the organization’s cryptographic transition plans.
  • For sovereign controls, determine which data-residency and jurisdictional obligations apply, then verify how the proposed service addresses them.

4. Poor networking-security coordination can compound breach risk

Versa Networks’ 2026 report landing page says 35% of organizations surveyed experienced a breach in the prior year that was caused or worsened by poor coordination between networking and security teams. The page describes a survey of 525 senior IT and security leaders. This is a vendor-published survey result, not independently verified global breach prevalence; the page does not establish a broader geographic scope.

The finding points to an operational issue for SASE projects: security and networking teams need clear ownership, shared processes and an agreed way to handle incidents and changes. Consolidating tools does not, by itself, guarantee that teams will coordinate effectively.

5. Technical complexity can derail convergence projects

Versa’s 2026 report page says 73% of surveyed leaders reported that technical complexity had delayed or derailed a critical project in the prior year, and describes integration failure as the leading cause of project collapse. It also reports that 99% of surveyed organizations had identified convergence as an organizational goal. These are vendor-published survey findings, not proof that buying a particular SASE platform will resolve integration or governance problems.

  • 【OpenWrt & USB 3.0 Expansion】OpenWrt with 1GB DDR4 and 8GB eMMC lets you install plugins and build VPN, ad-blocking or NAS, while USB 3.0 Type‑C connects high-speed storage or 4G/5G dongles

The figures describe different parts of the challenge: convergence may be a goal, while the work of integrating systems remains difficult. Before a rollout, make dependencies, ownership and decision rights explicit; test the integrations that matter to the deployment rather than assuming they will work together.

6. Deepfake identity impersonation calls for layered controls

Gartner’s June 2026 threat guidance says deepfakes can target biometric authentication, be combined with real-time social engineering, and be used in recruitment fraud. Gartner advises against relying on detection alone. As John Watts, VP Analyst at Gartner, put it in this context: “There is no one cybersecurity control that will protect you.”

Match safeguards to the use case

  • Use process and awareness measures suited to the way identity decisions are made.
  • Protect verification steps and authentication processes against impersonation attempts.
  • Use secure-meeting practices where meetings or remote interviews could be exploited.

The appropriate combination depends on the workflow being protected; the guidance does not present a single control as sufficient for every deepfake scenario.

7. AI application compromise and prompt injection need development and runtime defenses

Gartner’s June 2026 guidance recommends threat modeling and secure development for AI applications, alongside data classification, purpose-based access controls and runtime monitoring. For prompt injection, it recommends testing, input validation, monitoring and alerting, and runtime guardrails. Together, these are layers of risk reduction, not a guarantee that an application cannot be compromised.

Build controls into the application lifecycle

  • Threat-model the application and the data, tools and services it can reach.
  • Test prompt-injection scenarios and validate inputs.
  • Use runtime guardrails and monitoring, with alerting for behavior that warrants investigation.

8. Software supply-chain security remains a critical concern

Gartner’s June 2026 threat announcement warns that AI development may accelerate software supply-chain attacks through open-source vulnerabilities. Its recommended safeguards span software inventory, dependency management, development and build infrastructure, and runtime visibility.

Cover the chain from components to production

  • Maintain software inventories and request software bills of materials (SBOMs) and AI bills of materials (AIBOMs).
  • Use curated repositories and protect code branches.
  • Sign build artifacts and limit privileges in build systems.
  • Monitor runtime activity.

What SASE adoption figures do—and do not—show

Adoption data provides market context, but it is not evidence that SASE prevents the threats above. Palo Alto Networks’ summary of Gartner work reports survey responses and forecasts with different populations and denominators; intentions and projections should not be read as realized deployment outcomes.

47% Additional respondents saying their enterprise would deploy SASE by 2027 Survey intent, not realized adoption; Gartner CIO and Technology Executive Survey, 2025, as summarized by Palo Alto Networks.
30% by 2028 Forecast share of large organizations with expiring dual-vendor SASE contracts that will not renew and will consolidate to a single SASE platform Gartner 2025 roadmap forecast, as summarized by Palo Alto Networks.
30% in 2025 to 50% by 2028 Forecast share of new SASE deployments based on a single-vendor SASE platform Gartner 2025 roadmap forecast, as summarized by Palo Alto Networks.

The two 30% figures have different denominators: one concerns a forecast for a subset of large organizations with expiring dual-vendor contracts; the other concerns the forecast share of new deployments. They are not interchangeable measures.
