NVIDIA’s explanation, quoted by Ars Technica, is that component costs—including memory—have increased substantially. There is a price discrepancy to note: NVIDIA’s US product page still displayed $199.99 when checked that day, so verify the price shown at checkout before buying.
What changed—and what NVIDIA says is behind it
Ars Technica reported on October 2, 2026, that the US price of the SHIELD TV Pro increased by $100, from $199.99 to $299.99. The outlet attributed the change to an NVIDIA spokesperson, who said: “Starting October 2, SHIELD Pro will be priced at $299. The cost of components, including memory, has increased substantially across the industry.” Ars Technica’s report is the source for the announced price and NVIDIA’s explanation; it does not provide an independent breakdown of this product’s costs. 9to5Google also reported the increase the same day.
The $100 figure is the reported difference between the two US prices, not a change verified across every seller or market. NVIDIA’s US product page displayed $199.99 when accessed on October 2, 2026, despite the same-day reports of the increase. That page price may not yet have reflected the announcement; check the amount at checkout and the retailer’s listing before placing an order.
What the SHIELD TV Pro offers
NVIDIA describes the Pro as a 4K HDR streaming player with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, AI-enhanced upscaling, and GeForce NOW cloud gaming. Its specifications page lists a Tegra X1+ processor and 3 GB of RAM. These are manufacturer-described features and specifications, not independent performance-test results.

- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
The Pro’s distinguishing features include two USB 3.0 ports, Plex Media Server, and more storage space than the standard SHIELD TV model, according to NVIDIA. The company’s 2019 launch announcement specified 16 GB of storage for the Pro; the current product page does not establish a new storage capacity or guarantee compatibility with every external drive. For a buyer, USB expansion and Plex support matter most if the device will serve local media or a home media library. Dolby formats, upscaling, and GeForce NOW matter if those match the TV, audio setup, and services the buyer actually uses.
How the new reported price compares with launch
NVIDIA announced the SHIELD TV Pro on October 28, 2019, at a launch price of $199. The launch configuration included the remote, 3 GB of memory, and 16 GB of storage, according to NVIDIA’s announcement. The $299.99 figure in the October 2026 coverage is therefore $100 above the $199.99 launch-era price cited in current reporting. The launch announcement’s $199 figure and the later $199.99 price are distinct published amounts, so they should not be treated as identical.

The increase is striking for a product introduced in 2019, but the price alone does not establish whether it is worthwhile for a particular setup. The sources cited here do not provide a current, like-for-like price and specification comparison with alternative streaming players. Before deciding, check the live price and availability, then weigh the Pro’s USB expansion and Plex capabilities against the video, audio, and cloud-gaming features you need.
