Audible announced three AI-assisted features designed to add character information, interactive conversations and visual context to selected listening experiences. At the time of its October 1, 2026 announcement, they were rolling out in a limited beta for Audible customers in the United States and United Kingdom; Audible did not give a general-release date.

These examples and rollout descriptions come from Audible’s October 1, 2026 announcement. They do not mean every feature is available with every title.
How Character Guide helps you follow a story
Character Guide is aimed at listeners who lose track of a complicated cast. It identifies who is speaking as the story plays and provides spoiler-free cards about characters and the performers behind them. Audible said that questions about a production would come later; the announcement does not describe that as a feature already available.
Can you talk to an Audible story character?
Interactive Story is Audible’s answer, but it is a separate bonus experience rather than a change to the audiobook’s original plot. In the announced Dracula example, Renfield addresses the listener, establishes a role, goal and stakes, and reacts to what the listener says.

Audible says creators set the experience’s foundations, including opening scenes, turning points and character persona. The company describes the work as developed closely with creators and designed to stay faithful to their vision; that is Audible’s account of its process, not independent evidence of how well every experience achieves it.
What Visual Explorer adds
Visual Explorer is intended to bring relevant images and context into the listening experience rather than leave the listener with audio alone. Audible’s examples include maps or imagery connected to story moments. For The Cultural Tutor’s Grand Tour: The Story of Europe in Six Cities, the company describes additional images and information about the landmarks, people and places covered.

Sheehan Quirke, known as The Cultural Tutor, said on October 1, 2026: “I was able to shape what listeners see and when they see it, so the imagery isn’t just illustrative but is genuinely part of the storytelling.”
Who can use the features, and when?
Audible said all three features were rolling out in a limited beta for its customers in the United States and United Kingdom as of October 1, 2026. Its announcement does not specify device requirements, app versions, account tiers, title-eligibility rules or a date for general release. Availability may therefore depend on the particular title and rollout; the announcement is not enough to determine whether a given account or device has access.

Audible said it would refine the features based on feedback from customers and creators. Andy Tsao, Audible’s Chief Product and Analytics Officer, said on October 1, 2026: “In this case, AI is allowing us to create new interactive experiences that today’s listeners, especially younger audiences, are craving.” That statement explains Audible’s rationale; the announcement does not provide audience-demand or adoption figures.

The three tools address different needs: Character Guide helps orient you among speakers, Interactive Story lets you take part in an additional character conversation, and Visual Explorer supplies related imagery and context. Audible Chief Content Officer Rachel Ghiazza described the announcement as “the latest step in our nearly 30-year journey top push audio storytelling forward” on October 1, 2026. The wording is reproduced as printed in Audible’s announcement.
