Sony’s examined VAIO accessories are cases and model-specific computer bags, not a current general-purpose Sony backpack range. The backpacks below are alternatives from Aer, Osprey, and Patagonia, matched to different work and travel needs using their manufacturers’ published specifications.
Does Sony make a current laptop backpack?
The Sony VAIO products documented here are carrying cases and historical accessories rather than a current range of professional backpacks. Sony marks the VGP-CKS3 carrying-case line discontinued; its protective structure and pockets were designed for carrying a VAIO or fitting the case inside another bag. Sony’s VGP-CKC4 accessory case organizes items such as an AC adapter, mouse, small accessories, and documents. Sony’s VGP-CKS3 overview and feature page describe those products and their status.
A more specific historical example is the VGP-MBA10, a computer bag made for the VAIO AW Series (VGN-AW). Sony lists its PC pocket at approximately 450 × 300 × 40 mm, the overall bag at 560 × 370 × 175 mm, and its weight at 1.8 kg. These options suit different carrying needs. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent tests of comfort, durability, or value. “Up to” screen-size claims are not a guarantee that every laptop with that diagonal measurement will fit.

For longer trips and more packing capacity: Aer Travel Pack 3
Its 35 L capacity and travel-pack design make it the roomiest option in this comparison. The suspended padded laptop pocket is specified for up to 16-inch laptops. However, Aer marks this model discontinued and points to a newer version, so treat it as a specification reference rather than a reliably available recommendation. Check the current product listing and measurements if considering one.

For everyday commuting and weekends: Osprey Nebula 32
Osprey describes the 32 L Nebula for everyday use and weekend trips. It has a padded laptop and document sleeve, but the cited specifications do not give an exact laptop-size limit. Ask Osprey or inspect the compartment measurements before relying on it for a particular Sony model.

Patagonia lists a 26 L capacity and a padded sleeve for laptops up to 15 inches. Its published weight is 666 g. The smaller stated laptop limit makes checking your Sony’s width, height, and thickness especially important; a nominally 15-inch screen alone does not confirm compatibility.

How to check whether a backpack fits your Sony laptop
- Identify the exact laptop model. Use the model designation on the device or its documentation; “Sony 15-inch laptop” is not precise enough to establish fit.
- Measure the laptop itself. Record its width, height, and thickness, including any fixed protrusions that affect how it sits in a sleeve.
- Find the bag’s laptop-compartment measurements. Compare all three measurements with the manufacturer’s stated internal dimensions. If a page gives only a screen-size maximum or says “laptop sleeve,” ask the maker for compartment dimensions rather than assuming compatibility.
- Allow for how you carry it. A protective sleeve around the laptop adds bulk; leave room for that if you plan to use one.
- Check packed external dimensions for air travel. Compare the fully packed bag with the airline’s current cabin or personal-item limits. The backpack’s advertised dimensions do not establish that it qualifies under a particular airline’s rules.
How to choose without relying on a screen-size label
- Prioritize measured fit. A laptop pocket’s internal dimensions are more useful than a diagonal screen-size claim. The Sony VGP-MBA10’s published 450 × 300 × 40 mm PC pocket shows why a device-specific measurement can matter.
- Match capacity to what you carry. The listed bags range from 20 L to 35 L. Choose based on the space you need for work items and trip essentials, not capacity alone.
- Look for the carrying style you will use. The Flight Pack 3 explicitly offers three carry modes. The other options in this comparison are described as backpacks or daypacks.
- Separate manufacturer claims from proven performance. The cited pages describe features and specifications; they do not provide independent comparative results for comfort, durability, or long-term reliability.
- Confirm that the model is still for sale. The Travel Pack 3 is marked discontinued, while the Flight Pack 3’s current availability should be checked before purchase. Historical Sony VAIO cases are not substitutes for a confirmed, compatible current backpack.
