TIBCO announced an agreement to acquire LogLogic on April 3, 2012, and later reported that the deal closed on April 10. LogLogic brought enterprise log management and security information and event management (SIEM) into TIBCO’s operational intelligence strategy. The acquisition announcement did not disclose a price; TIBCO’s later SEC filings reported different purchase-price figures.
What was LogLogic?
LogLogic was a privately held San Jose enterprise software company focused on collecting and managing machine-generated IT data for security and operations. Its platform combined log management with SIEM—tools used to gather system and security records, retain and analyze them, and help organizations identify events that may require investigation.
In its April 3, 2012 announcement, TIBCO described LogLogic’s platform as scalable for enterprise and cloud environments. TIBCO also called LogLogic the originator of LSIP, or log and security intelligence platforms, and said it was “the only provider” combining SIEM and log management in one architecture. That “only provider” wording was TIBCO’s positioning, not an independently verified market assessment. The release reported that LogLogic served more than 1,000 companies worldwide.
Why did TIBCO acquire LogLogic?
TIBCO said the acquisition would expand its operational intelligence offering by adding LogLogic’s log and security capabilities to TIBCO’s event processing and in-memory analytics. The intended combination was to help customers monitor events in real time, assess risks and respond to threats. Those were the buyer’s stated rationale and expected benefits, not proof that the acquisition independently delivered those outcomes.

LogLogic’s role was to centralize machine-generated data; TIBCO’s existing technologies were positioned to process events and analyze information. Together, the companies’ products were meant to connect the collection of logs with broader monitoring and operational analysis.
What did the LogLogic platform do?
The practical value was handling IT logs across security and operations workflows: collecting records from systems, retaining them, filtering and reporting on them, and forwarding them for further use. A TIBCO customer story about Cerner describes those activities and reports that the LogLogic deployment processed 800 million logs per day. That is a figure for Cerner’s specific deployment, not a general capacity claim for every LogLogic installation.

When did the acquisition happen, and what did it cost?
TIBCO announced on April 3, 2012 that it had entered a definitive agreement to acquire LogLogic. The announcement said both companies’ boards had approved the deal, that additional transaction terms were not disclosed, and that closing was expected in TIBCO’s second fiscal quarter of 2012, subject to customary conditions.
TIBCO’s 2012 SEC Form 10-Q later reported that the acquisition closed on April 10, 2012, and that TIBCO paid approximately $130.0 million, net of cash acquired, for all outstanding LogLogic shares. A 2013 TIBCO SEC filing reported $131.6 million net of cash acquired and included purchase-price allocation details. These are figures reported in different filings; neither was disclosed in the April 3 announcement.
