Yes. Apple’s current Canada carrier directory lists TELUS as supporting eSIM Carrier Activation on iPhone. This lets TELUS assign a mobile plan digitally during purchase or after the iPhone is set up when you contact the carrier. It is not the same process as transferring a number from one iPhone to another with Quick Transfer.
What TELUS eSIM Carrier Activation means
With Carrier Activation, TELUS provisions an eSIM—a digital SIM built into the iPhone—through the carrier’s activation process. Apple describes the feature this way: “With eSIM Carrier Activation, your carrier can assign an eSIM to your iPhone digitally at the time of purchase, or if you call your carrier for an eSIM after setup.”
Because the plan is assigned digitally, Carrier Activation does not inherently require you to obtain a physical SIM card or scan a QR code. TELUS may present different instructions depending on your device, account and transaction.
Which TELUS activation method should you use?
| Method | Who initiates provisioning | Typical use | Does it require contacting TELUS? |
|---|---|---|---|
| eSIM Carrier Activation | TELUS assigns the eSIM digitally | Activating a new iPhone or requesting an eSIM after setup | It can be assigned during purchase; after setup, Apple says you may call your carrier |
| eSIM Quick Transfer | You transfer the number from a previous iPhone | Moving an existing number from one iPhone to another | Apple describes the transfer as taking place without contacting the carrier |
| QR code or carrier-app activation | You follow a TELUS-provided code or app workflow | Alternative activation routes offered for eligible transactions | Depends on TELUS’s instructions |
Apple’s Canada listings include TELUS under both Carrier Activation and Quick Transfer. TELUS also appears among carriers supporting other activation methods. These listings identify supported features, not a guarantee that every TELUS account can use every setup path.

How to activate or swap a TELUS eSIM
Activating during an iPhone purchase
- Choose an eSIM-capable iPhone and select a TELUS service or device transaction.
- Follow the activation prompts supplied by TELUS and Apple during checkout or setup.
- Keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data while the plan is assigned and the line becomes active.
The exact screens can vary by transaction, region, account type and iOS version. If the digital assignment does not appear, use the TELUS support instructions for your specific device rather than substituting a generic QR-code guide.
Requesting an eSIM after setup
- Complete iPhone setup.
- Contact TELUS and request an eSIM for the line and device.
- Complete the carrier’s identity, account and activation checks, then follow the on-screen iPhone instructions.
Swapping an existing TELUS eSIM through My TELUS
TELUS’s SIM and eSIM information says customers can manage an eSIM swap by signing in to My TELUS. Use that account route when changing a compatible device or replacing an eSIM, and consult TELUS’s linked device-specific activation help for the exact steps.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Using TELUS BYOD
TELUS advertises instant activation after checkout for a compatible eSIM device through its Bring Your Own Device service. That offer is a route for customers bringing an eligible phone; it does not establish that every phone marketed as eSIM-capable will qualify on every TELUS account or plan.
What you need before starting
- An iPhone model and software version accepted by TELUS for your transaction.
- A TELUS line or new-service order with the account information needed for activation.
- Internet access during setup or eSIM download.
- Access to My TELUS if you are swapping an existing eSIM.
Apple’s carrier directory confirms TELUS support at the feature level, but it does not list every supported iPhone model, iOS release, plan, account type or exception. Confirm those details in TELUS’s current instructions before beginning.

Compatibility: what is known and what is not
A January 2024 launch report described TELUS Carrier Activation for compatible iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and newer models running iOS 17.2 or later, with online and retail activation options. Those were launch-era details reported by iPhone in Canada, not a complete current compatibility matrix. TELUS’s present requirements take precedence.
Owning a compatible iPhone also means you may be able to use the feature without buying another device. Carrier support alone does not confirm eligibility for every model, plan, region or account configuration.

Physical SIM, QR codes and eSIM are different things
TELUS offers physical SIM cards as an alternative SIM type. A physical card is not a required accessory for Carrier Activation. Likewise, QR-code activation may be available for some TELUS transactions, but it is a separate method from Apple’s Carrier Activation flow.
If activation does not work
- Check that the iPhone is connected to the internet and has the latest software TELUS supports for your case.
- Verify that the device is eligible for the line, plan and account.
- Sign in to My TELUS and look for the eSIM-swap route if you are replacing a device.
- Use TELUS’s device-specific support article or contact TELUS if the carrier assignment does not appear.
- Do not assume that inserting a physical SIM or scanning an unrelated QR code will fix a carrier-provisioning problem.
What the announcement does—and does not—promise
TELUS’s support in Apple’s Canada directory means the carrier offers the Carrier Activation capability on iPhone. It does not mean that every TELUS line can be activated through every Apple setup path, nor does it replace TELUS’s account and device checks. The most reliable next step is to use the TELUS instructions attached to your specific purchase, swap or BYOD transaction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does TELUS support eSIM Quick Transfer on iPhone?
Yes. Apple’s current Canada listing includes TELUS for eSIM Quick Transfer as well as eSIM Carrier Activation. Quick Transfer moves an existing number from a previous iPhone and is distinct from carrier-assigned activation.
Do I need to buy a physical SIM card for TELUS Carrier Activation?
No. Carrier Activation assigns an eSIM digitally. TELUS physical SIM cards are an alternative, not a required accessory for this feature.
Can I use TELUS eSIM activation with a phone I already own?
Possibly. An existing compatible iPhone may qualify, but TELUS must confirm the model, software, plan and account eligibility for your transaction.
The Bottom Line
TELUS supports eSIM Carrier Activation on iPhone in Canada, giving eligible customers a digital setup route without requiring a physical SIM. Use Carrier Activation for a carrier-assigned eSIM, Quick Transfer when moving a number from another iPhone, and My TELUS or TELUS support for account-specific swaps and eligibility.
