Yes—but only if your mini PC or laptop has OCuLink, or a conversion path verified for that exact host. The MINISFORUM DEG1 is an external GPU dock, not a graphics card or a plug-and-play USB-C/Thunderbolt dock: you supply a desktop GPU and a suitable ATX or SFX power supply, then plan for installation, cooling and ventilation.

What the DEG1 does—and what it does not include

The DEG1 provides a connection between a compatible computer and a desktop graphics card installed in the dock. MINISFORUM specifies OCuLink over PCIe 4.0 x4, with a stated maximum of 64 GT/s. The dock itself does not include a GPU or power supply, so the complete build requires those components in addition to the DEG1. MINISFORUM’s DEG1 product page listed the dock at $109.90 and out of stock on September 30, 2026; price and availability can vary by region and change.

OCuLink is not interchangeable with an ordinary USB-C port or Thunderbolt connection. Do not assume that a computer can use the DEG1 just because it has USB-C, or because it supports some other kind of external GPU. The host must provide OCuLink or a conversion path confirmed to work with that specific model.

Check host compatibility before buying

MINISFORUM says the DEG1 can be used with devices that have OCuLink or can be converted to OCuLink. Its April 25, 2025 article about eGPU dock practicality and usage conditions does not identify a particular validated conversion adapter or give a comprehensive compatibility list. Treat conversion as a model-specific question, not a guarantee.

MINISFORUM DEG1 eGPU Dock, External GPU Docking Station for RTX 4090, AMD RX 7900 XTX, eGPU Enclosure Graphics Card Extension Support ATX/SFX Standard Power, Oculink Expansion Graphics Docking Station
  • 【Up Link & Down Link】Up link: Oculink 4i(PCIE4.0x4), Down Link: PCIEx16(PCIE4.0x4). Only Support Oculink.
  • 【Power Supply】This DEG1 supports ATX and SFX standard power supplies, which provides flexible power supply solutions for mini chassis.
  • 【Oculink Interfaces】Please kindly note the OCulink interface does not support hot plugging, and the machine needs to be turned off first.
  • 【Follow-start Function】The follow-start function is only compatible with MINISFORUM Mini PCs, it requires the use of original wires.
  • Note: The GPU is not included.
  • Look up the exact mini PC or laptop model and confirm that it has an OCuLink connection.
  • If it does not, verify the proposed conversion hardware and host configuration with reliable model-specific information before ordering. The manufacturer’s general statement does not establish compatibility for a particular adapter.
  • Check that your intended GPU, power supply, cabling and cooling arrangement will fit and work together in your build.

Parts and practical planning

MINISFORUM gives the DEG1’s dimensions as 270 × 175 × 41 mm and says it supports standard ATX and SFX power supplies. Those figures describe the dock; they do not establish that every graphics card or PSU will fit your intended setup. Check the actual card’s dimensions and power connections, and choose a PSU with the capacity and connectors required by that GPU. The power supply and graphics card are separate purchases.

  1. Confirm the host connection. Identify the computer’s exact OCuLink implementation or verify a conversion path for that model.
  2. Select the graphics card. Check its dimensions, power requirements and connectors. MINISFORUM names the RTX 4090 as an example of a supported high-performance GPU, but that broad claim is not proof that every RTX 4090 variant or host configuration will work.
  3. Choose a suitable PSU. Match its capacity and connectors to the particular GPU, and confirm that the PSU form factor and cabling suit the build.
  4. Plan installation and airflow. Allow for the card and power connections, and provide cooling and ventilation appropriate to the chosen components.

DEG1 or an all-in-one eGPU?

The choice is mainly between component flexibility and simpler setup. MINISFORUM’s comparison describes its MGA1 as an all-in-one eGPU with an AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT and 8 GB GDDR6. That gives the buyer a specified GPU and power configuration, while the DEG1 leaves card selection to the user and requires additional parts and assembly.

What kinds of work might benefit?

MINISFORUM presents graphics-heavy tasks such as 3D modeling, video editing, scientific computing and gaming as potential use cases. They are examples, not independently measured results. The cited manufacturer information does not establish a frame rate, a percentage performance increase or parity with a desktop GPU installed internally; actual results depend on the host, graphics card, workload and configuration.
