The videos in IEEE Spectrum’s August 23, 2024, Video Friday roundup show robots built for very different purposes: Disney’s character performance and Kinisi Robotics’ industrial work, alongside other demonstrations. They are not entries in a shared performance contest. Their settings and goals differ, and the sources do not provide common benchmarks for ranking them.
What is the “Robot Videos” roundup?
It is a selection of independent robotics clips published by IEEE Spectrum on August 23, 2024, under its Video Friday series. The title highlights a Disney robot dance and Kinisi Robotics, but the roundup also contains other demonstrations. Each clip should be understood in the context of its own project rather than as evidence that one robot is better than another. Read the roundup at IEEE Spectrum.
What does the Disney robot dance show?
Disney’s robotics work connects mechanical motion with character performance. One related project, Stuntronics, is a stunt-double animatronic platform designed to perform repeatable flips, twists, and poses using onboard sensing. Disney Research describes the platform’s sensing and stunt capabilities, while the official Imagineering account explains how motion-control work and iteration helped develop it. These sources provide context for Disney’s character-robotics work; they do not establish that Stuntronics is the robot shown in the 2024 dance clip.
How is Kinisi Robotics different?
The Kinisi demonstration belongs to industrial robotics, not character entertainment. IEEE Spectrum describes Kinisi’s dual-arm robot as intended for work in warehouses, factories, and supermarkets. Kinisi’s official Kinisi 01 page presents the platform for logistics and manufacturing.

The 2024 roundup reported Kinisi’s production target as under $20,000. That was a company claim reported at the time, not an independently verified figure or a current price. The cited material does not establish current pricing or ordinary consumer availability; Kinisi 01 is described for industrial settings.
What does Disney’s later Olaf robot add?
On November 24, 2025, The Walt Disney Company reported that Imagineering had revealed a robotic Olaf, a separate character-robotics example from both the 2024 dance video and Stuntronics. Disney said the project used deep reinforcement learning to imitate artist-provided motion in simulation: “A key technology in our platform is deep reinforcement learning that enables robotic characters to learn to imitate artist-provided motion in simulation.” The company’s report describes this approach, not a shared performance comparison with Kinisi or the other robots in the roundup. Can children explore robot movement with a programmable robot?
Yes. KinderLab Robotics’ KIBO is an educational platform with classroom activities that include synchronized Hokey Pokey routines and dances from around the world. It offers a practical way for children and educators to explore programming and movement, but KIBO is not the Disney or Kinisi robot featured in the roundup. See KIBO’s educational activities.
