The GMKtec NucBox M8 is a strong fit for office work, multitasking and everyday media: its six-core Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H offers capable CPU performance in a small case, while its Radeon 660M graphics are better suited to light gaming than demanding creative work. Its standout practical features are triple-display support, two M.2 storage slots, USB4, OCuLink and dual 2.5GbE Ethernet. The trade-offs are fixed 16GB RAM and integrated graphics that limit 4K editing and serious 3D work.

What the GMKtec M8 is—and who it suits

The NucBox M8 is a compact Windows 11 Pro mini PC built around AMD’s Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H, a 6-core, 12-thread processor with a 3.3GHz base clock and boost up to 4.5GHz. Its integrated Radeon 660M handles display output and graphics without a separate graphics card. GMKtec lists 16GB of soldered LPDDR5-6400 memory, with 512GB or 1TB storage configurations. GMKtec’s specifications also include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, USB4, OCuLink, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4 and two 2.5G Ethernet ports.

This combination is most compelling for a desk where compact size, everyday responsiveness and connection options matter more than gaming performance or future RAM upgrades. TechRadar rated the M8 4.5/5 and recommended it, describing it as an exceptionally compact office computer with more CPU capability than is typical at this size. The review’s 2026 update reports smooth use for Microsoft Office, video calls, browsing, streaming, Photoshop and Lightroom. Those are review findings, not a published benchmark table; no quantitative performance scores are available in the cited coverage.

How well does the M8 handle work and creative tasks?

Office work and multitasking

For documents, spreadsheets, browser tabs, video meetings and streaming, the M8’s processor is the main attraction. TechRadar’s follow-up testing found these everyday tasks smooth, and its review says the machine “handles productivity with ease.” This is the kind of workload the M8 is designed to handle well, particularly where multiple displays and wired networking are useful.

Create a multi-screen workspace for spreadsheets, research, meetings, content creation, monitoring, digital signage, or entertainment. Actual resolution depends on the display, cable, and output combination.

Photo and video editing

TechRadar found Photoshop and Lightroom usable, and described HD video editing as acceptable. The more demanding case—editing 4K footage in Premiere Pro—was a struggle. The distinction matters: the Ryzen processor can make a capable small work PC, but the Radeon 660M integrated graphics are the ceiling for graphics-heavy workloads. The M8 is not a substitute for a desktop with a discrete GPU if professional 3D, intensive effects or sustained 4K editing are central to your work.

Gaming

The Radeon 660M is suitable for everyday graphics and light gaming, but expectations should remain modest for demanding modern games. The available review evidence does not provide frame rates or game-specific settings, so there is no sound basis for promising a particular resolution or performance level. Choose the M8 for productivity first, not as a gaming PC.

Can the M8 run three monitors?

Yes. GMKtec lists HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB4, and the product specification supports up to three displays. The HDMI and DisplayPort connectors provide two direct display connections; the USB4 port can be used for an additional display with compatible equipment. Check the monitor’s input and the USB-C/USB4 adapter or dock’s display compatibility before buying accessories. The cited specification establishes triple-display support, but does not state a combined maximum resolution and refresh rate for all three displays.

This means most demanding games should be playable in minimum graphics settings (like Cyberpunk 2077) and less demanding games like Fifa 23 can be played in higher settings and resolutions (1080p).

Can you upgrade the M8’s RAM and storage?

Memory is fixed

The 16GB LPDDR5-6400 RAM is soldered to the board, so it cannot be replaced or expanded later. That makes the initial configuration an important decision: if your regular workload needs more than 16GB, the M8 is not a good choice.

Storage has room to grow

Storage is more flexible. GMKtec specifies two M.2 2280 slots and support for up to 8TB in each, for a stated maximum of 16TB total. One slot can be used for an additional PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD, subject to the system’s compatibility and installation requirements. This is an unusually generous expansion option for a mini PC, though it does not change the fixed RAM limit.

What ports and expansion options stand out?

  • USB4: useful for compatible high-speed peripherals and display connections.
  • OCuLink PCIe Gen4 x4: provides a path to an external GPU enclosure, but requires care during connection.
  • Two 2.5G Ethernet ports: useful where fast wired networking or multiple network connections are needed.
  • Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2: provide wireless networking and peripheral connectivity.
  • HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4: connect displays directly.

Using an eGPU over OCuLink

An OCuLink eGPU enclosure can add a discrete graphics card and address the M8’s integrated-graphics limitation. It is an additional setup, however, not an internal graphics upgrade. GMKtec warns that OCuLink is not hot-pluggable: power the PC off before connecting or disconnecting the enclosure. Do not attach or remove the cable while the system is running.

Size, mounting, cooling and warranty

There is a discrepancy between published dimensions. GMKtec lists the M8 at 107 × 111 × 63 mm and approximately 590g; TechRadar reports its reviewed retail chassis as 127 × 127 × 48.2 mm and 490g bare. These figures should not be treated as interchangeable, and the available sources do not explain the difference. Confirm the dimensions for the exact version being sold if desk space or mounting clearance is critical.

TechRadar notes that a VESA mount is optional and not included, so budget for a compatible mount if you want to attach the PC behind a monitor. GMKtec lists a 100W power adapter and a one-year limited warranty. The reviewed coverage does not publish measured noise or temperature figures, so it does not establish how loud or warm the system will be under a particular workload.

Price and value depend on the listing date

Prices in the review coverage are dated snapshots, not current quotes. At publication, TechRadar cited $329 for the 16GB/512GB configuration and noted a 1TB option. Its September 2026 update reported an Amazon price of around $390, down from about $480 at that time. Check the listing for your region and configuration before buying; those figures do not establish today’s price or availability.

Should you buy the GMKtec M8?

The M8 makes the most sense as a compact office and general-purpose PC when you value strong CPU-focused productivity, three-display capability, fast networking and unusually generous SSD expansion. Its most consequential compromise is not storage but memory: the 16GB RAM is soldered, while the integrated Radeon 660M limits demanding graphics work. If your priority is gaming, professional 3D or intensive 4K editing—or you know you will need more than 16GB RAM—look for a different class of system.
