Instagram’s Edits Assistant is a conversational tool in the Edits video-editing app that analyzes account and Reel signals to help creators find patterns, explore ideas, and consider audio for future posts. It offers analysis and suggestions—not an automatically written or edited Reel. The feature is rolling out on iOS and Android, with a free daily usage limit.
What is Instagram Edits Assistant?
Edits Assistant is an AI-powered helper inside Meta’s Edits app. Rather than offering only general creator tips, it draws on signals from your Instagram account and audience to provide more tailored feedback. TechCrunch reported its launch on September 30, 2026, and Android Central reported the rollout on October 1, 2026. (TechCrunch; Android Central)
What can it analyze and suggest?
The assistant can combine account performance with audience and platform context. Edits lead Brett Westervelt described the account metrics as follows: “The assistant knows your account’s Instagram metrics, things like follows, views, video retention, likes, shares and combines them with your comments, what’s trending on Instagram and what your audience is into.” (TechCrunch)
- Account and Reel performance: follows or followers, views, retention, likes, shares, and comments.
- Audience and platform context: topics trending on Instagram and what your audience is viewing.
- Possible next steps: patterns over time, concepts that have performed well, potential content directions, and audio that may suit your brand.
That combination can help surface relationships that are harder to spot by checking dashboard figures one by one. Suggestions are prompts to consider, not a guarantee that a particular concept or audio choice will perform well.

Can Instagram tell you what Reel to make next?
It can help you explore possible directions based on your account’s patterns and audience interests. For example, you can use its analysis to identify concepts that have worked before or consider a new topic or audio that fits your brand. The reports do not establish that the assistant predicts which specific Reel will succeed, so treat its suggestions as starting points rather than forecasts.
Does Edits Assistant make the Reel for you?
No. Meta has described the assistant as a tool for analysis, not one that takes over the creative work. Westervelt said, “One thing we heard consistently: creators want a tool that handles the analysis, not one that does the creative work for them,” and added, “Edits assistant does the digging for you. The creative calls are still yours.” (TechCrunch)
