Reports point to surging memory-chip costs, fueled by AI data-center demand, as the main reason. The increase is substantial, but the phones also offer seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates—so whether the new prices make sense depends on your storage needs, trade-in or financing offer, and how long you plan to keep the phone.
How much do the Galaxy S26 models cost now?
Reported U.S. prices effective October 1, 2026 show the increase across the main S26 lineup. The S26 FE’s starting price did not change.

These are reported U.S. prices, not a guarantee of the price in every country or at every retailer. Samsung’s U.S. launch pricing and the October changes are reported by Reuters and Seoul Economic Daily.
South Korean increases
In South Korea, the 256GB S26 moved from 1,254,000 to 1,403,600 won; the S26+ from 1,452,000 to 1,601,600 won; and the Ultra from 1,797,400 to 1,947,000 won. Reuters characterized the increases for most models as 149,600 won. The 1TB Ultra rose by 276,100 won, reaching 2,821,500 won. These Korean MSRP changes are not direct equivalents of U.S. retail prices; local taxes, pricing, and promotions differ.

Why did Samsung raise the Galaxy S26 price?
The clearest reported explanation is higher memory-chip costs. AI data centers are consuming large amounts of high-bandwidth memory capacity, tightening supply and raising costs for memory products including DRAM used in phones. Reuters and Korean business reporting identify memory inflation as the immediate pressure behind the price changes.
Seoul Economic Daily, citing DRAMeXchange, reported average DRAM prices of $26 at the end of September 2026, double the $13 level in March. The same report cited Counterpoint Research’s estimate that memory’s share of premium-phone production cost rose from 27% to 43%—a 16-percentage-point increase. Those are reported market and cost estimates, not Samsung’s disclosed per-phone bill of materials.

Samsung’s Q2 2026 results provide company-level context: its Memory business recorded an all-time high quarterly revenue and operating profit, while its mobile business acknowledged elevated component-cost pressures across the industry. Yonhap had also reported before launch that AI-driven memory inflation made a price adjustment more likely, after Samsung had kept main Galaxy prices steady since 2023.
The evidence supports memory costs as the central explanation, but it does not establish that memory was the only factor in Samsung’s pricing decision. The company’s results describe industrywide component pressure rather than assigning a specific dollar amount of the S26 increase to each component.

How does the increase compare with the S25?
The October 1 move is a second price step for some S26 models after their higher launch pricing. In the U.S., the reported change at the starting tiers is roughly $100. For an exact S25-to-S26 comparison, check the same storage configuration, country, and seller: the figures available here establish the October S26 prices, but do not give a complete set of like-for-like S25 prices. Trade-in credits and temporary offers can also change the amount a buyer actually pays.
Is the Galaxy S26 Ultra worth its new price?
There is no single answer: the Ultra’s value depends on whether its higher-end capabilities and storage matter to you. Compare the total cost of the configuration you want with what a standard S26 or S26+ offers, then factor in your likely ownership period and the value of any trade-in or financing offer.

- Performance and support: Samsung advertises up to a 19% CPU-performance increase for the S26 series, along with seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. These are series-level claims; they do not by themselves establish that an Ultra is a better value than a less expensive S26 model.
- Storage: Compare the storage tier you will actually use. The 1TB Ultra costs $1,999 in the reported U.S. pricing, while its 512GB version is $1,599.
- All-in cost: Include the charger, case, screen protector, financing terms, and any protection plan in your budget. A monthly payment can make a higher purchase price less visible without reducing the total owed.
- Local terms: Confirm the seller’s warranty and return policy and the terms of any trade-in or protection offer in your country.
The launch details and support claims are on Samsung’s global launch announcement. The advertised 19% CPU figure is a manufacturer claim; it should not be read as a promise that every task will run 19% faster.

- Compare the same model and storage tier at Samsung and the retailers or carriers you would realistically use.
- Calculate the final amount after trade-in, instant discounts, and any required plan or financing—not just the advertised monthly payment.
- Check the offer’s eligibility, duration, return conditions, and whether a trade-in credit is paid immediately or over time.
- Compare that total against keeping your current phone or choosing a lower-priced S26 model.

What charger and protection should you budget for?
Samsung’s global launch page recommends its original 45W Power Adapter and data cable for the Galaxy S26+ and original 25W Power Adapter and data cable for the Galaxy S26. Confirm the adapter and cable requirements for your exact model and region before buying accessories; the recommendations are not a statement that every buyer must purchase a new charger.
Samsung identifies Samsung Care+ as its official accidental-damage protection service in the UK. Coverage, pricing, eligibility, and terms vary by market, so read the local policy and compare it with your existing insurance or the retailer’s protection plan. A case and screen protector are separate purchases unless a seller explicitly includes them.
