Netrunner 26 “Twilight” was announced on April 2, 2026, as a 64-bit Linux distribution based on Debian 13 “trixie.” Its release announcement lists Linux 6.16.12+deb13, KDE Plasma 6.3.6, and KDE Frameworks 6.13.0, alongside desktop, audio, and Netrunner-specific changes. The kernel is a notable difference from Debian’s release announcement, which identifies the 6.12 LTS series as its baseline.
What Netrunner 26 includes
The Netrunner project describes Twilight as a 64-bit ISO based on Debian Stable 13. Its announced desktop stack pairs Plasma 6.3.6 with KDE Frameworks 6.13.0 and Qt 6.8.2. Plasma 6 is built on Qt 6 and KDE Frameworks 6; Debian’s release notes call Debian 13 its first release to ship Plasma 6.
The listed versions below are those reported in Netrunner’s April 2, 2026 announcement, not a guarantee of the contents of a download obtained later.

How its kernel differs from Debian 13
Debian’s August 9, 2025 release announcement lists the Linux 6.12 LTS series for Debian 13. Netrunner’s announcement instead lists kernel package 6.16.12+deb13 and explicitly contrasts it with Debian 13’s 6.12 default. That makes the kernel version one clear point of distinction, but it does not mean every Debian 13 installation uses Netrunner’s kernel.

The desktop versions are less distinct: Debian 13’s release notes also identify Plasma 6.3.6, KDE Frameworks 6.13, and Qt 6.8.2. The difference is in Netrunner’s distribution-specific configuration and additions rather than a wholly different Plasma release.
What changed in the Netrunner desktop
- XLibre for Plasma X11: Netrunner says its Plasma X11 session uses XLibre.
- Audio stack: The release names PipeWire and WirePlumber.
- Package organization: Unified Netrunner packages are intended to make upgrades easier; the announcement does not provide a quantified upgrade benefit.
- Samba mounting: The Samba mounter was rewritten for Qt 6 and PolicyKit.
- System utilities: The About-extended KCM was updated for Qt 6/KF6, and power-profiles-daemon is included for dynamic performance selection.
- Media tool: Stacher7 is included as a graphical interface for yt-dlp.
- Presentation: The release includes refreshed artwork.
Netrunner also claims improved support for recent AMD and Intel GPUs, sound, and wireless chips. That is the project’s release claim, not an independently established compatibility or performance test result.

How Debian 13’s package figures apply
Debian’s 2025 release notes report more than 14,116 new packages and more than 69,830 packages in Debian 13, as well as more than 44,326 packages updated—63% of the packages in Debian 12 “Bookworm.” Those figures describe Debian 13 as a whole, not Netrunner’s own package count.
