The BFG GeForce FX 5900XT OC (model BFGR5900XTOC) is a factory-overclocked 128MB graphics card for AGP 4X/8X motherboards—not PCI Express. It runs at a 430MHz core clock with 735MHz effective memory, and uses DVI, VGA and S-Video outputs plus auxiliary Molex power. It is chiefly of interest today for restoring or building a period-correct PC.
BFG GeForce FX 5900XT OC specifications
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Model | BFGR5900XTOC |
| Graphics family | NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT |
| Slot interface | AGP 4X/8X; not PCI Express. Newegg archived product record |
| Core clock | 430MHz, as listed by HotHardware in its 2004 review. HotHardware |
| Memory | 128MB Hynix 2.8ns DDR, on a 256-bit interface; 735MHz effective data rate and 23.5GB/s bandwidth, according to HotHardware’s 2004 specifications. HotHardware |
| Video outputs | DVI, D-Sub (VGA) and S-Video. Newegg archived product record |
| Auxiliary power | 4-pin Molex connector; the archived package included a Molex Y cable. Bjorn3D review |
HotHardware explains that “the ‘OC’ in this case stands for overclocked.” The factory clock figures above are the relevant baseline; an “OC” label by itself does not tell you whether another card uses the same clocks or BIOS.
Will it work in your motherboard and power supply?
Motherboard slot
The board is for an AGP slot. Check the motherboard manual or inspect the slot before buying or installing it: an AGP card cannot be installed in a PCIe graphics slot. The product record specifies AGP 4X/8X, so verify that the motherboard supports the card’s AGP generation and voltage requirements; the available specification record does not establish compatibility with every AGP board.
Power and physical condition
Confirm that the power supply has a usable 4-pin Molex connector. If you need a splitter, use a suitable, undamaged cable and avoid overloading a power lead already serving several components. The archived package included a Molex Y cable, but that does not guarantee that a particular used listing still includes it.

#1 Best Overall
- 256MB GeForce video card
- Superscalar GPU architecture
- NVIDIA CineFX 3.0 engine
- On-chip video processor
- Lifetime warranty
Before relying on a surviving card, inspect the fan, capacitors and board for damage, then check for stable video output and memory errors under load. These are prudent checks for old hardware, not results from a current test of this model.
Monitor connections
The card provides DVI, VGA/D-Sub and S-Video. A DVI-to-VGA converter was included in the archived package, which may help connect a VGA display if present; confirm that any used card listing includes the adapter, or source a compatible one separately.

Features and historical software context
NVIDIA’s GeForce FX 5900 family overview describes a 256-bit advanced memory interface and features including CineFX 2.0, Intellisample HCT, UltraShadow, AGP 8X, Fast Writes, sideband addressing, dual 400MHz RAMDACs and advanced thermal management. NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 overview These identify the card with the DirectX 9-era GeForce FX generation; they are not evidence of modern operating-system driver support.
The archived Newegg record lists Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98 or later, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows NT4 with service packs. That historical list does not establish support for Windows 10 or Windows 11. For a restoration, choose an operating system and driver version appropriate to the period build rather than assuming current Windows compatibility.

What the 2004 performance results do—and do not—show
In Bjorn3D’s 2004 test, the card was installed in an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ system with 512MB DDR, Windows 2000 Professional SP4, DirectX 9.0b and NVIDIA ForceWare 56.72 WHQL drivers. In Unreal Tournament 2004’s DM Rankin test, it averaged 125.13 fps at 1024×768 without antialiasing or anisotropic filtering, using the card’s 430/735 settings. At 1600×1024 with 4× antialiasing and 8× anisotropic filtering, the same test averaged 61.09 fps. Bjorn3D’s 2004 review
These are results from that specific game, configuration and period test system, not a prediction for a modern PC or other games. In the same review, Bjorn3D reached 471MHz core and 795MHz memory using NVIDIA Coolbits controls. That is a review overclock result, not a guaranteed stable setting for every card; age, cooling and component condition can affect what a particular board sustains.

What to check when comparing used GeForce FX cards
For comparisons with another GeForce FX 5900/5950 or FX 5700, verify the exact board model and compare the factors that affect fit and use:
- Slot type and AGP compatibility
- Factory core clock and effective memory rate
- Memory capacity and bus width
- Auxiliary power connector requirements
- Video outputs and any included adapters
- Cooling hardware and the card’s physical condition
- Driver availability for the operating system you intend to run
Current price, stock, seller condition and warranty availability are not established here and can vary between listings. Treat this as a legacy restoration or collecting card, and check the individual board and included accessories before purchasing.
