Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Dell was a key partner because reaching more businesses and government organizations required more than selling them AI chips. Dell could bring the storage, networking, computing and enterprise services needed to build and operate AI infrastructure. That was the logic behind Nvidia’s May 2024 push to take generative AI beyond the large cloud providers that Bloomberg described as its major customers at the time.

Why Dell mattered to Nvidia’s expansion strategy

In a Bloomberg Television interview during Dell Technologies World in Las Vegas on May 20, 2024, Huang said Nvidia wanted to make generative AI available to companies broadly: “We want to bring this generative AI capability to every company in the world,” Bloomberg News reported.

The challenge, in Huang’s account, was that businesses need more than accelerators. They need systems to store and move data, run computing workloads, deploy software and support the resulting infrastructure. Dell already served business and government buyers with those kinds of infrastructure needs. The partnership therefore gave Nvidia a route to customers it did not reach in the same way as Dell.

Bloomberg’s May 2024 report contrasted that opportunity with Nvidia’s reliance at the time on a relatively small group of hyperscale data-center customers. That is the contemporary context for Huang’s comments, not a current measure of Nvidia’s customer mix. Dell was intended to broaden access, not to replace cloud providers.

Why the companies described it as a full-stack system

Huang framed the task as building complete infrastructure rather than supplying a single server or chip: “It’s not about just delivering a box – it’s about delivering an entire infrastructure. It’s an infrastructure that’s insanely complicated.” Bloomberg News attributed the statement to his interview at the event.

In its May 20, 2024 event announcement, Nvidia described the Dell AI Factory with Nvidia as combining compute, networking, storage, services and software for enterprise AI applications. The companies’ proposition was that these parts work together as infrastructure: an accelerator alone does not provide the surrounding systems and tools an organization needs to put AI workloads into operation.

This is the companies’ description of the offering, not independent evidence that it outperforms other approaches. An organization evaluating enterprise AI infrastructure would still need to assess its workloads, existing systems, deployment needs and support requirements.

What the partnership could—and could not—show

The strategic bet was that making AI infrastructure easier for companies and public organizations to obtain could broaden AI development and, in turn, demand for Nvidia products. Huang and Bloomberg described that rationale; it does not establish that the partnership led to particular adoption levels or revenue outcomes.

Nvidia’s Dell Technologies World 2026 event page continues to present the Dell AI Factory as a portfolio spanning desktop to data center, with customization for businesses. That current positioning does not verify the present availability, price or configuration of the XE9680L announced in 2024.
