Do not install Nitrux 3.2.1 blindly today. Nitrux 3.2.1 is a January 2024 release, and the available evidence does not establish that it is still maintained or that it is Nitrux’s current ISO. Check Nitrux’s current release announcement and download page first. If you proceed, back up and verify your files, confirm that your PC meets Nitrux’s requirements, and understand that the single-boot “Erase disk” option destroys the selected disk’s existing data.
What Nitrux 3.2.1 actually is
Tux Machines reported on January 2, 2024 that Nitrux 3.2.1 shipped with Linux 6.6.9 LTS, KDE Plasma 5.27.10 LTS, KDE Frameworks 5.114 and KDE Gear 23.08.4. Those component versions identify that release; they do not prove that Nitrux 3.2.1 is supported or current in 2026.
Nitrux’s download documentation directs users to a latest-ISO endpoint and SourceForge mirrors. Before downloading, read the newest Nitrux release announcement, select the ISO flavor appropriate for your GPU, and check the accompanying checksum and signature files. Nitrux warns that a third-party torrent may not be up to date.
Check compatibility before making a USB
Nitrux’s current requirements page recommends the following baseline. Recommendations are not a guarantee that every individual computer will work perfectly.

Protect your Windows data first
An erase-and-replace installation is destructive. Copy documents, photos, browser data, password-recovery information, license keys and any other files you cannot recreate to a separate backup location. Open several files from that backup and confirm that the copies are usable. Do not treat the installer’s disk-selection screen as a backup or recovery system.
Disconnect other internal or external drives that do not need to be installed on, if practical. This reduces the chance of selecting the wrong disk, but you must still identify the target drive by its size and model in the installer.

Choose an installation path
| Path | What happens | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Erase disk | The selected disk is reformatted and Windows is removed. | A computer dedicated to Nitrux, with a verified backup. |
| Install alongside Windows | The installer uses space allocated for Nitrux and keeps Windows; GRUB should offer Nitrux and Windows Boot Manager. | Trying Nitrux while retaining a Windows fallback. |
| Manual partitioning | You design the filesystems and mount points yourself. | Experienced Linux users who can follow Nitrux’s current partitioning documentation precisely. |
Dual-boot is not risk-free: it still changes firmware settings and disk partitions. Keep a current backup and recovery method for Windows before changing either.
Prepare the Nitrux installer
- Download the current Nitrux ISO from Nitrux’s download documentation rather than assuming 3.2.1 is current.
- Choose the ISO flavor matching the target GPU.
- Read the release announcement for the ISO’s checksum and signature files, then verify the download before writing it to removable media.
- Use Nitrux’s installation guide to flash the ISO to a USB drive. The guide lists tools for Windows and Linux; the USB contents will be overwritten.
- Restart the PC and use its firmware boot menu to start from the USB in UEFI mode.
Install Nitrux as the only operating system
Nitrux’s single-boot sequence is intentionally simple but irreversible:

- PLATFORM BOUNDARY - Not designed to boot Apple Silicon or other ARM-based computers. Confirm CPU architecture and USB-boot support before purchase.
- BOOT SETTINGS VARY - Boot-menu keys and UEFI settings differ by manufacturer; consult the computer maker's instructions if the USB is not listed.
- BACK UP BEFORE INSTALLING - Disk-partition and installation choices can erase files or operating systems. Disconnect nonessential drives and preserve the USB until it is no longer needed for installation or recovery.
- Enter UEFI settings and disable Secure Boot.
- Boot the Nitrux USB and start the installer.
- Choose Erase disk.
- Identify the intended disk by its model and capacity, not merely its position in the list.
- Confirm only after checking that your backup is complete and that the selected disk is the one you intend to erase.
- Complete the installer, reboot, remove the USB when prompted, and verify that Nitrux starts from the internal drive.
The installer page does not promise recovery or preservation of data. Once the erase operation is confirmed, recovery may require specialist tools and is not guaranteed.
Install Nitrux while keeping Windows 11
Nitrux documents two approaches: let the installer install alongside Windows into space it allocates, or create unallocated space in advance and install into that space. Follow the current installer’s labels rather than relying on screenshots from older releases.

Understand Secure Boot before disabling it
Microsoft Learn states, “Secure Boot is a requirement for Windows 8, 8.1, 10, and 11.” Secure Boot checks signatures on boot software. Nitrux says its default installed kernel is unsigned, so it will not boot with Secure Boot left enabled unless you sign it with a user-generated Machine Owner Key (MOK).
Nitrux documents a deliberate workflow: disable Secure Boot so the system can boot, sign the kernel, enroll the MOK when prompted, then re-enable Secure Boot. It also documents using another supported kernel. Re-enabling Secure Boot without completing signing and enrollment can leave the Nitrux installation unable to boot; if that happens, return to the documented firmware and MOK steps or select the supported kernel option.

Manual partitioning is an advanced route
Do not use a generic Linux partition recipe for Nitrux. Its documentation says the root and home filesystems must be separate because the root filesystem is immutable. It requires XFS for root, recommends separately labeled root, home and /var/lib partitions, and specifies at least 7.5 GB free for root and at least 7 GB for /var/lib. Swap sizing varies depending on whether you need suspend or hibernation.
Because these requirements can change with the current release, use Nitrux’s current manual-partitioning instructions and confirm every mount point and filesystem before applying changes.
After the first boot
- Reconnect networking and install updates; Nitrux requires an active internet connection for updates.
- Confirm that the display driver and graphics acceleration work as expected, especially if you selected a GPU-specific ISO flavor.
- Test suspend, audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, printing and any applications you depend on before deleting your Windows recovery media.
- If you dual-boot, restart once into Windows and once into Nitrux to verify both GRUB entries.
- If Secure Boot is part of your security policy, complete the kernel-signing and MOK-enrollment process before turning it back on.
Is deleting Windows the right New Year’s resolution?
Choose erase-and-replace only when your backup is verified, your hardware meets Nitrux’s requirements, and you no longer need Windows-only software or device utilities. Dual-booting is the safer experiment because it preserves a fallback, but it still carries partition and firmware risks. If you are uncertain about the disk layout, Secure Boot keys or manual filesystems, stop before confirming changes and use Nitrux’s current installation documentation.
The Bottom Line
Nitrux can replace Windows 11, but Nitrux 3.2.1 is a dated 2024 release and should not be treated as today’s version without checking Nitrux first. Verify the current ISO, back up your data, confirm AVX2-capable hardware, and choose between an irreversible erase and a carefully prepared dual-boot installation.
