Yes. You can create Windows 11 installation media that skips setup checks for TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and other requirements by using Rufus with an official Windows 11 ISO. If Setup still blocks a clean install, you can apply the documented LabConfig registry values from Setup’s command prompt.
These methods bypass an installer check; they do not make unsupported hardware supported. Microsoft warns: “If Windows 11 is installed on ineligible hardware, your device won’t receive support from Microsoft.” Unsupported installations can also have compatibility problems, so back up your files and keep a working recovery path before proceeding.
Understand what the bypass changes
Microsoft’s normal Windows 11 baseline includes TPM 2.0, Secure Boot-capable firmware, supported processor, memory, storage and firmware requirements. Removing a check only lets Setup continue; it does not change the computer’s firmware or qualify it for Microsoft’s supported configuration.
- Microsoft may decline support for a device installed on ineligible hardware.
- Compatibility problems are possible, especially with older firmware, processors and drivers.
- Changing partitions during a clean install can permanently remove personal files.
- There is no authoritative success-rate or performance guarantee for these bypasses.
Check the normal installation path first
Identify the exact failed requirement
Run Microsoft’s PC Health Check and compare the result with Microsoft’s Windows 11 system-requirements page. Note whether the failure concerns TPM, Secure Boot, RAM, storage, CPU, firmware mode or another condition. If a firmware setting can solve the problem without a bypass, that is the safer route.

Prepare recovery and backups
- Copy personal files to a separate drive or cloud backup.
- Record your current Windows edition and activation status.
- Make sure you can reinstall the current operating system and locate essential drivers.
- Have a second computer available if you need to recreate installation media.
- Use a USB flash drive with at least 16 GB for the Rufus workflow described by Tom’s Hardware in 2025. Creating the installer erases the selected USB drive.
Create a bypass-enabled USB with Rufus
Rufus is the simplest repeatable method for a clean install. Its Windows 11 workaround places documented registry values such as BypassTPMCheck and BypassSecureBootCheck under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetupLabConfig inside the boot image. Current Rufus releases may expose additional requirement-removal choices in the same startup dialog.
- Get an official ISO. Download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft’s software-download service. Avoid modified or repacked ISO files.
- Connect the USB drive. Use the 16 GB-or-larger drive prepared above and copy off anything you need to keep.
- Open Rufus and select the media. Choose the correct USB device under Device, select Disk or ISO image as the boot selection, then use Select to choose the Windows 11 ISO.
- Start the write operation. Click Start. Rufus displays a Windows User Experience dialog before writing the image.
- Select only the needed bypasses. Choose the options offered by your Rufus version for the checks that block this computer, such as TPM or Secure Boot. Labels and available choices can change between releases; do not assume that an option shown in an older guide exists in your version.
- Confirm the erase warning. Rufus formats the selected USB drive and writes the installer.
- Boot from the USB. Restart, open the computer’s one-time boot menu, and select the USB in UEFI mode. The key varies by manufacturer.
- Choose the installation type carefully. For a clean installation, select Custom: Install Windows only and modify only the intended Windows disk or partitions. Deleting or formatting the wrong partition destroys its data.
Rufus’s bypass applies to Windows Setup in the boot image. It does not repair missing drivers, defective hardware or firmware settings, and it does not change Microsoft’s support policy.

Use the LabConfig registry fallback during a clean install
If Setup still reports an eligibility block, the same type of workaround can be entered manually. This is a clean-install technique, not a way to preserve an existing Windows installation.
- At the blocked Windows Setup screen, press
Shift+F10to open Command Prompt. - Type
regeditand press Enter. - In Registry Editor, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetup. - Right-click
Setup, choose New > Key, and name the keyLabConfig. - Inside
LabConfig, create a DWORD (32-bit) Value for each documented check that is blocking installation. For TPM, useBypassTPMCheck. For Secure Boot, useBypassSecureBootCheck. - Open each value and set Value data to
1. - Close Registry Editor and Command Prompt, then return to Setup and retry the installation.
Add only values that correspond to documented checks. Internet guides often circulate guessed or version-specific key names for other requirements; do not treat those names as universal. If the current Rufus release offers a supported option for another check, recreating the USB with Rufus is safer than adding arbitrary registry entries.

Know the separate in-place-upgrade option
Microsoft documents a different registry override, AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU, for an in-place upgrade. It belongs under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetupMoSetup as a DWORD set to 1, then Windows Setup is run from the mounted ISO while Windows is already running.
This route has narrower prerequisites and is not the clean-install method for a computer with no TPM. It is intended for systems that still meet the prerequisite set, including the TPM 1.2 condition associated with Microsoft’s documented unsupported-CPU/TPM upgrade path. Use it only when Setup offers to keep your files and applications, and maintain a full backup first.

Troubleshoot common failures
Rufus does not show bypass choices
Confirm that you selected a Windows 11 ISO and that Rufus is current. The requirement-removal dialog appears after clicking Start; its labels vary by release. Recreate the media rather than editing an unofficial ISO.
The computer ignores the USB
Use the manufacturer’s one-time boot menu and select the UEFI entry for the USB. If it still will not boot, recreate the drive and verify that the ISO download completed correctly.

For a clean install, return to Shift+F10 and verify that the LabConfig key is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetup, that the value names are spelled exactly, and that each DWORD contains 1. Do not apply the MoSetup value to a clean-install screen; it is a different path.
You want to keep the existing installation
Do not boot into a clean-install workflow. Investigate Microsoft’s in-place-upgrade prerequisites and the MoSetup override instead, and stop if Setup does not offer to keep your files and applications.
Quick Recap
After installation
- Install chipset, storage, network and graphics drivers from the hardware manufacturer.
- Run Windows Update and check Device Manager for missing devices.
- Keep the original recovery media and your backup until the new system has been stable.
- Expect Microsoft’s unsupported-hardware warning to remain applicable even if Windows activates and runs normally.
