Amazon said he had returned by April 2025, and Jabil later identified him as Ring’s vice president of product in a full-time Amazon role. Fortune described him as overseeing Ring in February 2026.
Did Jamie Siminoff leave Amazon recently?
No new 2026 departure is established by the available sources. The headline that Siminoff “is leaving Amazon” appears to refer to his earlier exit, announced in 2023, rather than a newly reported decision. The latest source in the timeline, a May 5, 2026 podcast listing, discusses his earlier departure and return; it does not announce another exit.
The timeline matters because Siminoff did leave Amazon, then returned. Amazon’s April 2025 interview introduced him as recently back at the company, and a Jabil announcement later that year tied his decision not to seek reelection to its board to a full-time Amazon position as Ring’s vice president of product. Fortune described him as back at Ring and overseeing the business in February 2026. These sources establish his return and role at those points; they do not confirm a subsequent departure.
When did Siminoff leave Amazon and return to Ring?
| Date | What was reported |
|---|---|
| May 15, 2023 | The Verge reported that Siminoff was leaving Amazon to pursue a new opportunity. The report also noted that he had earlier said he would shift to a chief inventor role. |
| April 4, 2025 | Amazon published an interview presenting Siminoff as recently returned. He said he was excited to invent with the Ring, Blink, Amazon Key, and Sidewalk teams. |
| October 16, 2025 | Jabil said Siminoff would not seek reelection to its board at the January 2026 annual meeting, connecting the change to his full-time Amazon role as Ring’s vice president of product. This was a board transition, not an Amazon departure. |
| February 25, 2026 | Fortune described Siminoff as back at Ring and overseeing the business. |
| May 5, 2026 | A podcast episode listing discussed his earlier Amazon exit, Door.com, return to Ring, privacy, and his book Ding Dong. It did not report a new departure. |
Who is Jamie Siminoff, and what is his connection to Ring?
Siminoff founded Ring. Amazon’s April 2025 profile says he started the company in his garage fourteen years earlier; Fortune’s 2026 account says Ring’s original video-doorbell product was called Doorbot before the company adopted the Ring name. In 2013, he pitched Doorbot on Shark Tank and did not receive an investment, according to Fortune.

Amazon and Ring announced that the acquisition had closed on April 12, 2018. Their announcement highlighted the Ring Video Doorbell and described a shared aim of expanding home monitoring and neighborhood safety. Siminoff said at the time that reducing neighborhood crime was central to Ring’s mission and that Amazon could help the company reach more neighbors with more accessible security devices and systems.
What did Siminoff say about returning?
In Amazon’s April 2025 interview, Siminoff described invention as his priority: “Invention is my true passion—I love looking at what we can invent for our neighbors, which is what I’ve always called our customers.” He named Ring, Blink, Amazon Key, and Sidewalk as teams he was excited to work with. That statement gives his stated focus at the time of his return; it is not evidence of a later personnel change.

What to make of the “leaving Amazon” headline
- It is accurate as a reference to 2023: Siminoff’s departure was reported in May of that year.
- It is misleading as a claim of a new 2026 exit: the sources here document his return in 2025 and describe him overseeing Ring in February 2026, but do not establish another departure.
- Do not confuse his Jabil board change with leaving Amazon: Jabil connected the board transition to his full-time role at Amazon.
A later announcement could change the picture, but none of the cited reporting through May 5, 2026 establishes one.
