Its scope went beyond packaging IP: it combined product-database management with design assembly, flow control, debugging, and generators intended to automate or extend design flows. This is historical product coverage, not confirmation that Magillem 4.0 is available or supported today.
What Magillem 4.0 provided
Embedded.com described Magillem 4.0 as a design environment built around IP-XACT, the specification used to describe and integrate IP in electronic-system designs. The suite paired a database management system with design tools for debugging and running generators. Its reported features included importing and packaging IP, assembling designs, and controlling flows. Read the Embedded.com article.
In this EDA context, “complete environment” means that the product was presented as covering multiple connected stages of an IP-based SoC workflow—not that it replaced every design tool or performed every engineering task. The article’s feature descriptions are historical product claims, not independently tested results.
IP and product database management
The described environment included IP import and packaging alongside product database management. These functions were intended to organize reusable design components and make them available for assembly within a broader project.

Design assembly and debugging
Designers could assemble systems using schematic capture or script commands. The article also identifies debugging as part of the suite, positioning Magillem as more than an IP catalog or packaging utility.
Flow control
Magillem 4.0 was described as providing flow control for coordinating design activities and tools. Its stated interoperability goal was to bring existing tools, languages, methods, and models together in an automated flow.

- Integrated VST plugin support gives professionals access to thousands of additional tools and effects
How IP-XACT supported integration
The article says Magillem implemented the IP-XACT APIs TGI and LGI. It described these APIs as supporting the encapsulation of point tools within a SPIRIT IP-XACT flow and work with configurable IP. The aim was to connect existing tools and design assets through a shared flow rather than require every team to use one tool or method.
Embedded.com also reported support for Linux, Solaris, and Windows. That is a compatibility claim from the historical article; it does not establish compatibility with present-day operating systems or versions.

What the generators could automate
Generators were a central part of the described environment. The article outlined several roles for them:
- Configure IP for a design context: Generators could use design-context parameters when working with configurable IP.
- Extend or transform flow functions: Generators could add or modify flow functions and produce code.
- Integrate third-party tools: Generators could encapsulate external tools so they could participate in a flow.
Together, those capabilities were intended to help teams automate design processes while retaining existing tools and practices. The article does not provide independent measurements of how much work the generators saved or how well they performed.

What the reported scale means
Embedded.com reported Magillem 4.0 was designed to handle SoCs with “up to 100 IPs and more than 10K registers.” This is a product capability claim reported by the publication; it is not an independently measured benchmark. The returned article page does not establish its publication date.
Magillem is not AMD Vitis
The phrase “complete environment” also appears in AMD’s documentation for the Vitis unified software platform, but that is a different product serving a different purpose. AMD describes Vitis 2025.1 as an environment for creating software applications for AMD embedded processors, with a GNU-based toolchain, JTAG debugger, flash programmer, drivers, bare-metal board support packages, middleware libraries, and an IDE for C/C++ development and debugging. Those software-development features should not be attributed to Magillem 4.0.

What is known about Magillem today
The available historical coverage identifies Magillem Design Services and says it was established toward the end of 2006 and contributed to the specification. It does not establish the company’s present status, or whether Magillem 4.0 is currently sold, maintained, or supported. A current Siemens EDA product sheet shows Solido Crosscheck supporting IP-XACT among its IP-validation data views, but that limited overlap does not establish it as a Magillem successor or as a replacement for Magillem’s assembly and flow-control functions.
