The rugged conga-TC1000r is a COM Express Compact module with screw-locked LPCAMM2 memory, intended for systems exposed to temperature swings and vibration. The wider Series 3 family spans COM Express and COM-HPC form factors; congatec advertises up to 180 TOPS across supported configurations, not as a measured result for every module or the TC1000r specifically.
What congatec announced
On March 31, 2026, congatec announced industrial-temperature variants in its Intel Core Ultra Series 3 COM portfolio, including the rugged conga-TC1000r. The announcement builds on the company’s January 6, 2026 launch of five COMs across four form factors. The range is aimed at embedded systems that need local compute in constrained or demanding environments.
Congatec positions these modules as application-ready aReady.COMs. Its stated target markets include industrial automation, robotics, medical equipment and retail point-of-sale systems. The company also describes use in applications exposed to weather, vibration and sustained workloads; a product’s temperature rating alone does not establish suitability for every such condition.
Which modules and form factors are included?
The family covers established COM Express designs as well as COM-HPC options. The form factor affects compatibility with a carrier board and available system I/O, so a processor family match by itself is not enough to establish a drop-in replacement.

| Module | Form factor | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| conga-TC1000 | COM Express Compact | Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Panther Lake-H support is identified in the official datasheet. The standard variant’s industrial-temperature rating was not specified in the available product details. |
| conga-TC1000r | COM Express Compact | Rugged variant with screw-locked LPCAMM2 memory; congatec announced an operating range of -40 °C to +85 °C. |
| conga-HPC/mPTL | COM-HPC Mini | Based on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. |
| conga-HPC/cPTL | COM-HPC Client | Preliminary datasheet lists dual 2.5 GbE with TSN on selected variants; confirm the exact SKU. |
| Other Series 3 COMs | COM Express Mini and additional COM Express Compact options | The January 2026 launch describes these as part of the five-module, four-form-factor lineup, but the available product details here do not identify every model or configuration. |
What the -40 °C to +85 °C rating means
The announced range is an industrial-temperature operating envelope for the ruggedized offering, particularly the conga-TC1000r. It is relevant to equipment that must operate through cold starts, heat exposure or repeated temperature changes—for example, outdoor or mobile systems and industrial installations. It should not be read as a blanket rating for every Series 3 COM, or as proof that a complete computer will meet the same envelope.
System-level operation depends on the carrier board, memory and other components, enclosure, airflow or cooling, and the module’s configured workload. Integrators should check the exact module datasheet and the complete system’s thermal and environmental limits before specifying operation at either endpoint.

How to interpret the AI performance claims
Congatec states that the Series 3 portfolio can deliver up to 180 TOPS of energy-efficient embedded computing performance. The company describes configurations with up to 16 CPU cores, an integrated NPU5 delivering up to 50 TOPS, and integrated Xe3 graphics delivering approximately 120 TOPS. These are vendor-published portfolio figures for supported configurations, not independent benchmarks or a promise that every module reaches the maximum.
The design combines different kinds of compute resources: CPU cores for general-purpose work, an NPU for low-power inference, and graphics/accelerator resources that may reduce the need for a discrete AI card in some systems. Congatec names local NLP and LLM execution, image classification, sensor fusion and SLAM as target workloads. Whether a particular model, latency target or workload mix will run acceptably depends on the processor configuration, software, memory, thermal limits and application; the TOPS figures alone do not establish that outcome.

How to choose a module for a design
- Start with the temperature envelope. If the module itself must be rated from -40 °C to +85 °C, focus on the rugged offering and verify that the selected SKU and the rest of the system meet the requirement.
- Match the form factor to the carrier and migration plan. COM Express Mini or Compact may suit an existing carrier design or space-constrained system. COM-HPC Mini or Client may better fit a new design seeking a different I/O platform. A change of form factor generally requires a compatible carrier rather than assuming the old one will work.
- Check mechanical memory retention. The TC1000r’s screw-locked LPCAMM2 approach is intended for rugged mechanical conditions. Confirm the implementation and system-level vibration requirements for the application.
- Verify network features by SKU. Dual 2.5 GbE with TSN is listed for selected conga-HPC/cPTL variants, not established as universal across that module family.
- Validate performance against the actual workload. Treat the TOPS values as vendor claims and test the intended models, software stack and sustained thermal behavior on the chosen configuration.
What else is needed besides the COM?
A COM is a computing module, not a complete standalone computer. It is used with a compatible carrier board that provides system interfaces and connects the module to the rest of the product. The carrier’s electrical design, connector routing and I/O capabilities must match the module and application.
Cooling also has to be designed for the selected processor configuration and the enclosure. Congatec describes an integration ecosystem that includes evaluation carrier boards, active and passive cooling options, optional real-time hypervisor pre-evaluation, signal-compliance work, temperature screening and design-in services. Those offerings can support integration, but the announcement does not establish a universal cooling solution or a guaranteed system temperature range; these must be validated for the finished design.
