Samsung’s February 25, 2026 announcement listed only the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Reports that the Edge successor had been canceled came from South Korean outlet NewsPim via secondary coverage, while later Samsung executive comments said the Edge device had not been end-of-lifed and that a follow-up was still under consideration.
Did Samsung cancel the Galaxy S26 Edge?
Not officially. The Galaxy S26 Edge was absent from Samsung’s February 25, 2026 Galaxy S26 announcement, so it was not part of the confirmed launch family. That establishes its unannounced status, but it does not prove that Samsung has permanently ended the Edge line or will never release another model.
The cancellation story began in October 2025. HotHardware and Android Authority attributed reports to South Korean publication NewsPim, which said Samsung had halted the S26 Edge project after weaker-than-expected Galaxy S25 Edge sales and was returning to a Plus model. Those reports were not a Samsung press release or an official sales disclosure.
What Samsung executives said later
Comments reported by Tom’s Guide in February 2026 made the situation less definitive than “scrapped” suggests.

“All that said, it’s still an in-market device that we have, so we’ve not end-of-lifed that device, and we’re assessing when the right time to have a follow-up would be.”
Tom’s Guide attributed that statement to Drew Blackard, Samsung America’s senior vice president of Mobile Product Management. The publication also attributed this comment to Won-Joon Choi, Samsung’s chief operating officer of Mobile Experience:
“We haven’t made a decision when to have a next one, but it’s still being considered.”
Those remarks do not promise an S26 Edge launch. They indicate that Samsung had not formally ended the existing Edge device and had not decided whether or when to produce a successor.

Why reports linked the decision to Galaxy S25 Edge sales
The NewsPim-based reports connected the alleged project halt to relatively low Galaxy S25 Edge sales. Android Authority, citing NewsPim, reported these figures as of August 2025:
| Model | Reported units as of August 2025 | Attribution and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 Edge | 1.31 million | Reported by Android Authority and HotHardware as a NewsPim figure; not an official Samsung disclosure in the cited coverage |
| Galaxy S25 | 8.28 million | Reported by Android Authority as a NewsPim figure; dated snapshot, not an audited Samsung comparison |
| Galaxy S25+ | 5.05 million | Reported by Android Authority as a NewsPim figure; dated snapshot, not an audited Samsung comparison |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra | 12.18 million | Reported by Android Authority as a NewsPim figure; dated snapshot, not an audited Samsung comparison |
Because these numbers were reported secondhand and no primary Samsung sales statement was provided, they should be treated as an attributed August 2025 snapshot rather than definitive proof that the Edge design failed. The sources also do not provide a comparable primary sales dataset for Apple’s iPhone Air.
How the Galaxy S26 lineup compares with the rumored Edge path
| Question | Confirmed information | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Which S26 phones were announced? | Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra were named in Samsung’s February 25, 2026 announcement. | Samsung could still announce a separate Edge device later; the announcement itself does not rule that out. |
| Is there an S26 Edge? | No S26 Edge was announced with the family. | Samsung has not publicly confirmed a launch date, specifications, or even a decision to release one. |
| What is the existing Edge product? | The Galaxy S25 Edge is the real device discussed in the reports. | Whether it will receive a direct S26-generation successor is undecided in the cited executive comments. |
| Is the S26+ an official Edge replacement? | The S26+ is a confirmed conventional Plus model. | The cited sources do not say that Samsung designed it as a direct replacement for the Edge’s thin form factor. |
The S25 Edge represented Samsung’s ultra-thin flagship experiment. The S26+ confirms that Samsung retained a Plus model in the announced range, but the available reporting does not establish that the two phones have equivalent dimensions, features, or intended buyers.

Did the iPhone Air cause Samsung to drop the Edge?
The “showdown” framing refers to competition in the ultra-thin smartphone category. It does not establish that Apple’s iPhone Air directly caused Samsung to halt, delay, or reconsider the S26 Edge. The NewsPim-based reports focused on the S25 Edge’s reported sales, while the later Samsung comments described an undecided product roadmap.
There is also no comparable primary iPhone Air sales figure in the cited material, so the available evidence cannot support a claim that one company’s thin phone decisively outperformed the other’s.
What this means if you want a Samsung Edge phone
If you want an Edge phone now
The Galaxy S25 Edge is the relevant retail product. It is a real, released device, but current inventory, regional availability, and price must be checked at the time of purchase.
If you want a confirmed S26 model
The Galaxy S26+ is part of Samsung’s announced 2026 lineup. It is the confirmed Plus option, not a documented replacement for the S25 Edge’s thin design.
If you are waiting for an S26 Edge
There is no confirmed launch date or product announcement to rely on. Waiting may make sense only if an ultra-thin successor matters more to you than having a currently announced S26 model; Samsung’s reported executive comments leave the timing and existence of a follow-up open.

Bottom line on the “scrapped” claim
Calling the Galaxy S26 Edge “permanently scrapped” goes beyond the evidence. The accurate position is narrower: Samsung announced no S26 Edge on February 25, 2026; NewsPim-based reports in October 2025 said the project had been halted; and Samsung executives later said the Edge device was not end-of-lifed and that a successor remained under consideration without a decision on timing.
