Solidigm announced the 122TB-class drive on November 13, 2024; its product materials specify a maximum capacity of 122.88TB per drive.
What is the Solidigm D5-P5336?
The D5-P5336 is an enterprise solid-state drive built around QLC (quad-level cell) NAND. Solidigm positions it for storing and reading large datasets rather than as a general-purpose desktop upgrade. The company says the 122TB-class model doubled the capacity of its earlier 61.44TB version. Solidigm’s November 2024 launch announcement described the new drive as sampling to customers at that time.
The “122TB” name is a rounded figure: Solidigm’s product page and product brief specify up to 122.88TB. The product page lists E3.S, E1.L, and U.2 form factors. Exact capacities by form factor, interface details, endurance ratings, and system compatibility should be checked in the current documentation for the specific drive and host system.
What workloads is it intended for?
Solidigm describes the D5-P5336 as read-intensive storage for large datasets and lists these use cases:

#1 Best Overall
- Solidigm D5 Series D5-P5336 - SSD - Read Intensive - 7.68 TB - Internal - E3.S (E3.S) - PCIe 4.0 x4 (NVMe)
- AI data lakes and machine-learning datasets
- Big-data analytics
- Content delivery networks (CDNs)
- Scale-out NAS and object storage
- Cloud storage and edge deployments
These are data-center and enterprise infrastructure scenarios. The drive’s suitability depends on the full system and workload, particularly how much data is written, the required endurance, and how the storage is configured.
What performance and density figures has Solidigm published?
Solidigm’s product page lists up to 1,005K 4KB random-read IOPS. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent benchmark result; actual performance can depend on system hardware, software, configuration, and workload.
Rank #2
- Item dimensions: 5.5 inches
The company has also published density and efficiency comparisons. Its 2024 launch announcement stated up to 84% less storage power and up to a 4:1 NAS footprint reduction compared with legacy hybrid HDD-plus-TLC solutions, as well as up to 4 petabytes per rack unit. The D5-P5336 product brief describes a modeled new-build comparison of all-QLC storage with a hybrid HDD/TLC approach: up to 9:1 storage-rack reduction and approximately 90% less storage power.
Those figures describe Solidigm’s comparisons and scenarios, not guaranteed savings for every deployment. The company cautions that results may be estimated or simulated and can vary with hardware, software, and configuration. Buyers comparing platforms should normalize workload, usable capacity, redundancy, rack design, power and cooling, and the HDD/TLC baseline before treating the figures as comparable.

What is known about availability and deployment?
The launch announcement said the 122TB-class D5-P5336 was sampling to customers in November 2024. In a later newsroom item, Solidigm said Dell PowerScale systems offered the 122TB SSDs and described the drives as shipping in 2025. Sampling at launch and a later system deployment are separate milestones; neither statement establishes present-day availability, pricing, or compatibility for a particular buyer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should enterprise buyers evaluate it?
Compare the drive with alternatives using the same workload and system assumptions, rather than capacity alone. The relevant checks include:
Rank #4
- Solidigm D7 Series D7-P5520 - SSD - 3.84 TB - internal - 2.5" - U.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 (NVMe)
- Capacity and density: Compare usable capacity per drive and rack density after accounting for redundancy and the storage architecture.
- Read performance: Test or validate the actual workload; the published random-read figure alone does not establish performance for every application.
- Write intensity and endurance: Confirm the workload’s write pattern and the endurance rating for the exact drive configuration in current documentation.
- System fit: Verify the chosen form factor and drive support with the server or storage platform.
- Power, cooling, and cost: Compare whole-system requirements and total cost under equivalent capacity, redundancy, and workload assumptions.
Solidigm’s announcement also cited more than 100EB of QLC-based product shipped since 2018. That is company-reported context, not an independent measure of the D5-P5336’s performance or suitability for a specific deployment.
