Yes—CrowdStrike Falcon can protect IoT and other connected operational assets, but it is enterprise security software, not a consumer IoT device or home-network product. CrowdStrike introduced Falcon Insight for IoT in April 2023 for IoT, operational technology (OT), medical devices, Industrial IoT and other connected systems. Later announcements use the broader name Falcon for XIoT (extended IoT).

The offering combines asset context, prevention, detection and response with newer capabilities for zero-touch discovery, segmentation visibility and unified industrial-asset risk views. Announced features and general availability are not the same thing, so buyers should confirm the current release status and device coverage with CrowdStrike before procurement.

What is CrowdStrike Falcon for IoT?

Falcon for IoT—originally announced as Falcon Insight for IoT—is an extension of CrowdStrike’s Falcon security platform to connected assets that are often difficult to protect with conventional endpoint tools. Its intended scope includes:

  • Enterprise and Industrial IoT devices
  • Operational-technology (OT) systems and networks
  • Medical devices
  • Other connected or specialized assets, including devices that may be unmanaged, legacy or unsupported by a traditional endpoint agent

CrowdStrike describes the product as a way to bring connected-asset telemetry and response into the same security platform used for other attack surfaces. The company’s April 2023 announcement said the service was generally available at that time; later capabilities announced for Falcon for XIoT may have separate release dates or availability conditions.

What Falcon for IoT does

Asset context and security policy

The 2023 offering collects context such as device type, operating-system version and network protocols. CrowdStrike says this information helps organizations tailor prevention policies to the characteristics of each asset instead of applying identical controls to every device.

Threat prevention, detection and response

CrowdStrike describes a combination of prevention, detection and response for connected assets. Listed response actions include host or process containment and USB-device control. The practical actions available for a particular device depend on its operating system, integration method and support status; CrowdStrike’s reviewed materials do not provide a complete current device and operating-system matrix.

Partner and existing-tool integration

The 2023 announcement identified integrations through the CrowdStrike Alliance and XIoT partners, naming Claroty as an example. Treat that as evidence of a partner-integration model, not as a guarantee that every current Claroty or third-party workflow is supported in every Falcon deployment.

What changed with Falcon for XIoT

In November 2025, CrowdStrike announced additional Falcon for XIoT functions aimed at environments where discovering assets without disrupting operations is a central problem.

Capability CrowdStrike’s description What buyers should verify
Zero-touch asset discovery Discovery across segmented environments; the accompanying description includes DHCP-based subnet discovery. Which network architectures, subnets and device types are supported, and whether the capability is generally available in the intended region and edition.
Asset and protocol context Attributes can include device type, protocol and Purdue level. Data fields, update frequency, retention and export options.
Segmentation visibility Visibility into device-to-device communications, including activity involving managed, unmanaged and unsupported devices. Whether the deployment can observe all required network segments and how encrypted or proprietary traffic is represented.
Unified industrial view A customizable interface for industrial-asset and vulnerability information. Which vulnerability sources are included, how findings are prioritized and which dashboards are available in the purchased service.

CrowdStrike’s 2025 blog says organizations can move from deployment to complete XIoT visibility in under 10 minutes using a single Falcon sensor. That is a company claim; the reviewed material does not include methodology or independent testing, so it should not be treated as a representative benchmark for every network.

How the product fits OT and IoT environments

OT and medical environments often prioritize availability and safety over rapid software changes. A security product therefore has to account for equipment that cannot be patched, rebooted or instrumented like a standard corporate laptop. Falcon for XIoT’s stated approach is to combine passive or low-disruption visibility with policy, detection and response controls, while using asset context to distinguish industrial roles and protocols.

What Falcon for IoT does not establish

  • It is not a consumer IoT hub, smart-home controller or physical security appliance.
  • The announcements do not provide current list pricing, package tiers or a complete supported-device matrix.
  • Announced functionality should not automatically be treated as generally available. CrowdStrike’s November 2025 materials included expected availability language and advised customers to base purchase decisions on services and features currently available.
  • Vendor statements about speed, efficacy or operational outcomes are not independent test results.

How enterprise buyers should evaluate it

Use the following questions when comparing Falcon for XIoT with another OT or XIoT security product:

  1. Discovery method: Can it discover assets without active scans or dedicated hardware, and does that method work across your segmented networks?
  2. Legacy and unmanaged coverage: How are unsupported, unmanaged and safety-critical devices represented and monitored?
  3. Device and protocol coverage: Are the operating systems, industrial protocols and medical-device types in scope documented for your deployment?
  4. Response controls: Which containment, process and USB actions are available, and what happens when a device cannot safely accept them?
  5. Operational risk: What testing, approval and rollback procedures are required before enforcement?
  6. Communication visibility: Can the platform show device-to-device relationships and traffic across the segments that matter to plant or clinical operations?
  7. Integration: Does it connect to the OT monitoring, vulnerability-management, SIEM and orchestration tools already in use?
  8. Management model: What sensor, gateway, network-access and administrative requirements apply?
  9. Authorization: Does the relevant deployment meet your regulatory or government-cloud requirements, rather than merely carrying a similarly named product designation?
  10. Availability: Is each required feature generally available now in your region and subscription, or is it announced, preview or scheduled?
