Tenable acquired industrial-cybersecurity company Indegy on December 2, 2019, to connect operational-technology (OT) visibility and protection with its existing IT vulnerability-management platform.
What Tenable acquired
Tenable announced and closed the purchase of Indegy Ltd. on December 2, 2019. The transaction transferred all outstanding Indegy shares to a Tenable subsidiary.
Deal terms
Tenable reported $78 million in cash, subject to customary purchase-price adjustments. Its SEC filing describes the consideration as approximately $78 million. Tenable also estimated $15 million to $17 million in deal-related costs, primarily for intellectual-property transfer and other transaction expenses; that was an announcement-time estimate, not a final audited total.
Tenable’s acquisition announcement and the SEC Form 8-K provide the transaction details.

Why Tenable said it pursued Indegy
Tenable described OT as part of the modern attack surface and argued that organizations should manage OT cyber risk alongside IT risk. Its stated objective was a unified, risk-based view of IT and OT security, including the ability to prioritize and measure vulnerabilities affecting OT assets.
Amit Yoran, Tenable’s chairman and CEO at the time, said: “For every company in every industry, OT is now part of the modern attack surface.” That is Tenable’s strategic rationale for the deal, not independent validation that the combined offering delivered every claimed benefit.

Capabilities Indegy was expected to add
Indegy provided visibility, security and control across industrial environments. Tenable said the acquisition expanded its OT capabilities in the following areas:
| Capability | What Tenable said Indegy contributed |
|---|---|
| OT asset inventory | Identification and visibility into industrial devices and their components. |
| Configuration management | Information for understanding and managing the configuration of OT equipment. |
| Threat detection | Detection capabilities focused on activity in industrial networks. |
| Vulnerability management | OT-focused assessment that could be combined with Tenable’s vulnerability-prioritization approach. |
| Industrial intelligence | Deeper context about OT devices and the components they contain. |
Indegy’s co-founder and CEO, Barak Perelman, said: “When we started Indegy we set out on a mission to protect industrial networks through a mix of cybersecurity expertise and hands-on OT experience, developing products which solve the hardest industrial cybersecurity challenges.”
Integration timeline announced in 2019
The announcement distinguished between an integration that was already available and two that were planned:
- Tenable.sc: The Indegy Industrial Cybersecurity Suite integration with Tenable.sc, Tenable’s on-premises vulnerability-management offering, was described as available when the acquisition was announced.
- Tenable.io: Integration with Tenable.io, described by Tenable as cloud-based vulnerability management, was expected in the first half of 2020.
- Tenable Lumin: Integration with Tenable Lumin was also expected in the first half of 2020.
The Tenable.io and Lumin dates were plans stated at announcement. The cited materials do not establish the actual later launch date or current availability of each integration, so they should not be treated as verified rollout dates.

How the two companies’ roles fit together
This was not a purchase of two competing products. Tenable brought an established IT vulnerability-management and risk-measurement orientation; Indegy supplied OT device visibility and industrial security functions.
| Security question | Tenable’s stated contribution | Indegy’s stated contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Where are the assets? | IT vulnerability-management coverage | Inventory and identification of OT devices and components |
| Which weaknesses matter most? | Vulnerability prioritization and risk measurement | OT-specific context for industrial assets |
| What is changing in the environment? | Risk visibility across the broader enterprise | Configuration management and threat detection in industrial networks |
| How should leaders view exposure? | A unified risk view spanning IT and OT | Operational detail needed to understand OT exposure |
The table reflects capabilities as Tenable described them in December 2019; it is not a claim that every later product bundle retained the same packaging.

What Tenable’s later filing shows
Tenable’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2019 filing, published in 2020, listed Tenable.ot among its enterprise-platform offerings for industrial IoT and OT environments. That filing supports the later use of the Tenable.ot product name, but it does not establish current 2026 packaging, licensing or availability.
