Humane did not recall the Ai Pin itself. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled the separate Charge Case Accessory for Ai Pin after its lithium-ion battery could overheat and create a fire hazard. Humane says the problem was limited to certain battery cells used in the case; its Ai Pin, Battery Booster and Charge Pad were not affected by this recall.

What exactly was recalled?

The recalled item is the portable Charge Case Accessory that charges an Ai Pin. The CPSC recall covered about 10,500 units. It is a different product from the Ai Pin, the Battery Booster and the Charge Pad.

The CPSC listed the recall date as October 31, 2024. Its notice was updated June 2, 2025, and now says that the remedy is no longer available.

What happened while charging?

The CPSC reported one incident in which a charge case overheated and melted during charging. It reported no injuries or property damage. That single report is evidence for this recall, not a general failure rate for all Ai Pin batteries or charging products.

Humane said the report that prompted its investigation involved a third-party USB-C cable and a third-party power source. That is Humane’s account; the CPSC notice does not identify those accessories as the root cause.

Humane described the issue this way:

“The issue identified is isolated only to certain battery cells used in the Charge Case Accessory and is not related to the Charge Case Accessory hardware design.”

What owners should do now

  1. Stop using the recalled Charge Case Accessory immediately. Do not continue charging an Ai Pin with it, even if it appears to work normally.
  2. Do not put it in ordinary household trash. The CPSC says recalled lithium-ion batteries must be handled under applicable local and state procedures for damaged, defective or recalled batteries.
  3. Do not use a common retail battery-recycling box. The CPSC specifically warns against those collection boxes for this recalled item.
  4. Contact your local waste, hazardous-materials or fire-safety authority for instructions on transporting and disposing of a recalled lithium-ion battery. Follow the CPSC’s direction to destroy and discard the case only through a procedure approved for recalled batteries.

The CPSC’s current notice says no remedy is available. Do not rely on older reports that suggested a replacement, refund or other remedy, and do not buy a replacement Charge Case Accessory based on those reports.

When and where was the case sold?

According to the CPSC, the case was sold online at humane.com from November 2023 through May 2024. Historical prices were about $150 when sold separately, or $700–$800 as part of the Ai Pin Complete System. Those figures describe the recalled sales period, not current prices or resale value.

Was the Humane Ai Pin itself recalled because it could catch fire?

No. The official recall applies to the Charge Case Accessory. The CPSC’s incident report concerns that case overheating and melting during charging, while Humane says the Ai Pin and the other named charging products were unaffected by this recall. If you own a recalled case, the practical safety decision is to stop using and properly dispose of the case rather than treating the entire Ai Pin product line as recalled.

What is known—and what is not?

  • Established: about 10,500 Charge Case Accessories were recalled; one overheating-and-melting incident was reported; no injuries or property damage were reported; and the CPSC now lists the remedy as unavailable.
  • Humane’s explanation: certain battery cells from a supplier were implicated, and the issue was not attributed to the case hardware design.
  • Not established by the official notices: a broader fire rate, a current replacement program, a current resale or retail listing, a serial-number lookup process, or current Humane support availability.
