Its defining feature is PLAYSYNC AUDIO: USB audio switching among up to three connected gaming systems. Unlike the ASTRO A50 X, the A50 Gen 5 does not switch HDMI video.
What Logitech announced
Logitech G introduced the ASTRO A50 Gen 5 at its Logi Play event on September 17, 2024, with shipping planned for October 2024. The company positioned it for players who keep multiple consoles and a PC connected to one or more monitors and want to change the active audio source from the headset.
Gabriel Whyel, Logitech G’s Head of Marketing for Console and Cloud, described PLAYSYNC AUDIO as “3-system audio switching via USB” for multi-platform gamers. That is a company statement about the product’s intended use, not an independent performance assessment.
What PLAYSYNC AUDIO switches
PLAYSYNC AUDIO switches USB audio between as many as three connected gaming systems. It is designed for changing which system you hear without moving a headset cable between devices.

The A50 Gen 5 is not an HDMI switch. It does not route or change video signals. Logitech describes the headset as the option for users who want multi-system audio switching but do not require the A50 X’s HDMI video switching.
Compatible systems and connection notes
Logitech’s launch announcement named Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC among the supported systems. The current Logitech G US product listing also identifies Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 as compatible.

Logitech’s US product page later displayed a temporary $239.99 price against $299.99, stating that the special price was valid through September 27, 2026. That date has passed, so it should not be treated as a current offer. Check the live Logitech listing or the retailer’s current checkout price before purchasing.
Who should consider the A50 Gen 5?
- Multi-platform players: You use up to three systems and want USB audio selection from the headset.
- Setups without HDMI switching needs: Your display arrangement already handles video input changes.
- PC and console users: You want one headset base station serving the listed Xbox, PS5, PC, Switch or Switch 2 connections.
If you specifically need a single device to change both console audio and HDMI video, the A50 Gen 5 is the wrong model; Logitech positions the A50 X for that requirement.
The Bottom Line
The ASTRO A50 Gen 5 is Logitech G’s audio-focused alternative to the A50 X: PLAYSYNC AUDIO switches USB sound among up to three systems, while video switching remains outside the headset. Confirm the current price and your console’s connection mode on Logitech’s live support pages before buying.
