The Sabrent DS-SDNV can be an excellent dock for a Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally if you want built-in M.2 storage alongside HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and USB accessories. It is not automatically the “ultimate” dock: the right choice depends on whether that storage slot matters more to you than extra USB ports, DisplayPort, or a particular power setup.

What the Sabrent DS-SDNV includes

Sabrent names this model the USB Type-C 6-Port Docking Station with M.2 Port (SKU DS-SDNV) and markets it for Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally. Sabrent also lists compatibility with Windows, macOS and Linux computers, plus other USB-C devices that support DisplayPort Alternate Mode. See the official DS-SDNV product page.

The dock’s defining feature is an internal M.2 slot. It accepts an NVMe or SATA SSD for additional file and game storage, subject to the drive requirements in the full product documentation. The published specifications also include HDMI 2.0, wired networking and three USB-A ports.

Compatibility and power requirements

Steam Deck and ROG Ally

Sabrent explicitly positions the DS-SDNV for both handhelds. Your handheld, operating system and connected display still determine which functions work. For another USB-C host, DisplayPort Alternate Mode is required for video output.

Power through the dock

Steam Support says a hub or dock must provide USB-C Power Delivery passthrough to power a Steam Deck, and recommends checking the device manual for USB-C display and USB capabilities. Read the Steam Deck docking FAQ before buying. The sources available here do not specify the DS-SDNV’s charging wattage, so verify the dock’s current documentation and make sure your charger meets your handheld’s requirements.

DS-SDNV versus Valve’s official Steam Deck Dock

Valve’s official dock is a useful comparison, but specifications alone do not establish a universal winner. Valve lists three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, with support up to 4K at 60Hz or 1440p at 120Hz. Valve notes that specifications can change; consult its current Steam Deck Dock specifications.

SABRENT Lay Flat NVMe & SATA HDD/SSD Dock, USB-C 10Gbps (DS-UFNC)
  • DUAL FORMAT, ONE DOCK – Reads M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs (2242, 2260, 2280) and 2.5in or 3.5in SATA SSDs and HDDs. Drives are not included — this is the dock you put your own drive into.
  • BOTH CABLES IN THE BOX – The dock's port is USB-C, and it ships with a USB-C to USB-C cable AND a USB-A to USB-C cable, so it connects to a USB-C laptop or an older USB-A port without a separate adapter. 12V power adapter included for 3.5in drives.
  • 10Gbps USB 3.2 GEN 2 – Fast backups, media access and drive-to-drive work. Real-world speed is set by the drive you install: an NVMe SSD gets closest to 10Gbps, a spinning 3.5in HDD runs at its own mechanical speed.
  • OFFLINE CLONE, NO PC NEEDED – Copy one drive to another with the direction switch, clone button and progress LEDs. Clone target must be equal to or larger than the source drive.
  • TOOL-FREE AND CROSS-PLATFORM – No screws, no drivers. Hinged lid and lay-flat layout for quick swaps, and it works with Windows, macOS and Linux.

SABRENT OMNIPORT 7D USB-C Dock, Dual 4K HDMI, 100W PD (HB-UC7D)
  • DUAL-MONITOR DOCKING STATION: Run two displays from one USB-C port: an HDMI output and a USB-C video output, each up to 4K@60Hz. On Windows (with MST) you extend across both screens; on macOS the second display mirrors the first. Turn a single port into a full two-screen workstation
  • VIDEO OVER HDMI AND USB-C: One of the four USB-C ports doubles as a video output, so you can drive USB-C portable monitors and handhelds, not only HDMI screens. Four USB-C 10Gbps ports (USB 3.2 Gen 2) move data up to 20X faster than USB 2.0 for SSDs and fast storage; two USB 2.0 Type-A ports handle keyboards, mice, and controllers
  • 100W POWERED, DEDICATED PD PORT: A separate Power Delivery 3.0 input takes up to 100W and passes up to 80W to your laptop (Power Supply NOT included). Because charging runs on its own port, your data and dual-video connections stay at full speed - charge and connect with zero compromise
  • BUILT FOR TRAVEL AND GAMING: Slim, lightweight, with a 60cm integrated USB-C cable that reaches your laptop on a stand or in a bag. No power button to fumble - a status LED lights the moment it's plugged in. Plug-and-play on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android with no drivers. Compact dock for Steam Deck and gaming on the go
  • WIDE DEVICE COMPATIBILITY: MacBook (M1-M4), Windows laptops, Dell XPS, Surface, Steam Deck, Android phones and tablets (Samsung DeX), Chromebook, and more USB-C devices with DisplayPort Alt Mode. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty - extendable to 2 years with free registration - plus trusted Sabrent support

Who should buy the DS-SDNV?

  • Good fit: handheld owners who want one compact station for an M.2 game library, wired networking, HDMI and a few peripherals.
  • Check carefully: users who need DisplayPort, several high-speed USB devices, a known charging wattage, or guaranteed case clearance.
  • Not established by the specifications: any claim that it is the fastest, coolest, most reliable or best-performing dock, or that every port can sustain its advertised maximum simultaneously.

What to verify before ordering

  • Confirm that your handheld or host supports the required USB-C display mode; other hosts need DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
  • Confirm USB-C Power Delivery passthrough and charger requirements for your Steam Deck or ROG Ally.
  • Check the full manual for supported M.2 drive type, dimensions and capacity before choosing an SSD.
  • Compare the one USB 2.0 plus two 5Gbps USB port layout with your keyboard, mouse, storage and controller needs.
  • Recheck current seller pricing, shipping, warranty terms and firmware information because manufacturer-site details can change.
