Meta AI is available inside WhatsApp, but its entry point can differ: depending on the app version, you may see a dedicated Meta AI tab or an icon. If your friend has a tab and you do not, Meta’s public guidance does not identify one definitive reason for that difference or provide a complete account-eligibility list.
Where to find Meta AI in WhatsApp
Meta’s WhatsApp guide, published June 15, 2026, describes several ways to start a conversation. The label and placement can vary with the app version, so check the current WhatsApp interface if these directions do not match what you see. Meta’s WhatsApp guide says to use one of these entry points:
- Meta AI tab or icon: Tap it to begin a conversation.
- Search: Enter a question in WhatsApp’s search bar. If Meta AI can answer it, the search flow can start a chat with the assistant.
- Inside a conversation: Type
@Meta AIfollowed by your prompt.
Meta lists drafting a polite reply, generating images and asking for ideas in a group conversation as possible uses. These are examples from Meta, not guarantees of access or output quality; do not rely on an AI response as the sole basis for a high-stakes decision.
Why the tab may appear for one person but not another
The confirmed explanation is limited: Meta says the interface depends on app version, and its announcements document rollout across markets at different times. Those facts may help explain why WhatsApp looks different, but Meta’s public material does not establish that either factor fully determines who gets the tab. It does not provide a complete current country-by-country availability list, account eligibility rules or a way to diagnose an individual account.

So if the tab is missing, its specific cause is unknown from the public sources cited here. An app update may change the interface, but Meta does not promise that updating will make the tab appear. Check the other entry points above rather than assuming the feature is absent.
What Meta’s rollout announcements establish
Meta’s dated announcements show that access expanded over time. They are historical snapshots, not a current eligibility checker:

Meta AI’s WhatsApp privacy mode is a separate issue
In May 2026, the Associated Press reported that Meta was rolling out temporary “incognito” conversations for WhatsApp AI. AP reported that this mode was text-only at the time: users could type questions and receive text responses. It also reported Meta’s claims that conversations would be processed in a secure environment, would not be saved by default and would disappear when a session ends. Those details describe the separate conversation mode, not why one person has a Meta AI tab and another does not; product and privacy details can change. Associated Press report
