Wave Browser’s partnership with 4ocean appears to fund real cleanup work, but browsing with Wave does not come with a published plastic-per-user conversion. Eightpoint announced a goal of funding removal of 100,000 pounds of ocean plastic and trash over 12 months. Wave’s later updates report substantial programme totals, yet they do not show how much one user, session, click or download contributes.
That leaves two separate decisions: whether Wave is a browser you want to use, and whether its environmental accounting is transparent enough for you to support. The cleanup claim alone does not answer either question.
What Wave Browser actually promises
On October 6, 2025, Eightpoint announced that Wave Browser and 4ocean would fund the removal of 100,000 pounds of ocean plastic and trash over 12 months. Wave is offered for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS, with features including privacy tools, ad blocking, productivity functions and an AI assistant.
Eightpoint CEO Deniz Gezgin described the idea as “making environmental impact as effortless as opening a new tab.” 4ocean co-founder and CEO Alex Schulze said Wave was showing that technology could be a force for good. Those are statements from the companies promoting the partnership, not independent assessments of its effectiveness.

The available figures are programme-level totals reported by Wave, not a meter attached to individual browsing activity.
| Publication or period | Figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| October 6, 2025 announcement | 100,000 pounds over 12 months | The partnership’s announced funding target, not a guaranteed amount attributable to each user. |
| September 2025 impact report | 7,509 pounds removed in Indonesia | A Wave-reported monthly result. |
| Through September 2025 | 47,520 pounds total | The partnership total stated in Wave’s September report. |
| Wave About page reporting 2025 activity | More than 70,000 pounds removed in 2025 | A later, company-published annual figure with additional monthly updates listed through 2026. |
The September report also describes 23 cleanup missions in Indonesia. It says the collected material was sorted, shredded, washed and prepared for recycling. The later About-page figures should still be treated as company-reported totals; the public material identified for this article does not include an independent audit.
Who does the cleanup and where
The announcement says 4ocean crews work in heavily affected areas including the Dominican Republic, Indonesia and the United States. Partnership funds are described as supporting crew wages, boats and cleanup equipment. Wave’s September account gives more detail about Indonesian operations and the preparation of recovered plastic for recycling.
Rank #2
That establishes a funded cleanup partnership and describes operational activity. It does not establish that a particular browsing action caused a particular amount of material to be removed.
The missing number: plastic removed per user
No published source identified for this article states how much money or cleanup weight corresponds to:
- one Wave user;
- one browsing session or page view;
- one click, download or new-tab opening; or
- a specific amount of advertising or subscription revenue.
There is also no disclosed formula showing the funding cost per pound, the timing of payments, or how Wave separates its contribution from other 4ocean funding. Without those figures, you cannot honestly calculate your personal environmental impact from installing or using the browser.
Is Wave Browser worth installing?
Wave may be a reasonable choice if its browser features suit you independently of the cleanup promise. The environmental claim should be treated as an additional consideration, not as proof that Wave is safer, faster or better for privacy than the browser you already use.
Features and availability
Wave is described as a Chromium-based browser for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. The announced feature set includes privacy controls, an ad blocker, productivity tools and an AI assistant. Feature availability can vary by platform and account tier.

Wave Pro and pricing transparency
BetaNews reported that some features required Wave Pro and that Wave’s site did not disclose the monthly price at the time of its review. That is time-specific independent reporting, not a permanent statement that Wave has no price or that its pricing has never changed. Check the current offer and renewal terms before subscribing.

Signup reliability
The same BetaNews review described receiving a secure-connection error while attempting to sign up. A single review cannot establish a lasting service outage, but it is a practical reason to test installation, account creation and core browsing before paying for an upgrade.
Privacy and security questions
A Chromium base, an ad blocker and privacy tools do not by themselves prove how Wave handles browsing data, synchronisation, AI requests, telemetry or account information. Read Wave’s current privacy policy and permissions screens, and compare them with the policies of browsers you already trust. The cleanup partnership is not a substitute for technical or privacy evidence.
How Wave compares with your other choices
Your decision depends on whether you want a browser change, direct cleanup support, or both. The following comparison reflects what is and is not established publicly.
Best Value
| Option | Privacy and security | Price transparency | Environmental accounting | Independent verification | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Install Wave | Privacy tools and ad blocking are advertised; broader data practices require your own review. | BetaNews reported undisclosed Wave Pro monthly pricing at the time of review. | Company-reported partnership totals; no per-user formula published. | Not established in the public material identified here. | You are willing to test a new Chromium browser and judge its features separately from its cleanup message. |
| Keep your current browser and support 4ocean directly | Your existing browser’s controls and policy remain in place. | Depends on the current 4ocean product, donation or membership terms. | You support 4ocean through the channel it currently offers, without pretending browsing has a fixed plastic value. | Verify the current programme details and disclosures before contributing. | You want to fund cleanup without changing browsers. |
| Keep your current browser and do neither | No new browser permissions or account are introduced. | No new subscription. | No claimed cleanup contribution. | Not applicable. | Wave’s feature set or accounting transparency does not meet your threshold. |
How to support cleanup without changing browsers
- Go directly to 4ocean’s current official support options. Check whether the available product, donation or membership clearly explains what your payment funds.
- Read the terms before paying. Confirm whether charges recur, what cancellation requires and whether any quantity of cleanup is guaranteed or estimated.
- Check the accounting language. Prefer a programme that identifies the organisation performing the work, the geography, the reporting period and how results are measured.
- Disclose any commercial relationship. If a site or creator links to 4ocean or Wave through an affiliate or referral arrangement, verify that arrangement and label it plainly.
Bottom line
Wave Browser is not shown to be a fake partnership: Eightpoint and 4ocean announced a funded cleanup programme, and Wave has published reports describing missions and company-reported removal totals. But the public information does not tell you how much your browsing contributes, and it does not provide the independent verification needed to turn the headline into a personal impact claim.
Install Wave only if you want its browser features after checking current privacy, permissions, pricing and signup conditions. If your sole goal is to remove ocean plastic, supporting 4ocean directly lets you evaluate the contribution on its own terms instead of treating an unquantified browsing activity as a donation.
