Roku’s Battery Camera and Battery Camera Plus are wire-free, weather-resistant cameras designed to work with the Roku Smart Home app and compatible Roku TVs and players. Roku advertises up to six months of battery life for the Battery Camera and up to two years for the Plus model, but those figures vary with use and conditions. Both models offer 1080p video and color night vision; live viewing is available without a subscription, while cloud recordings and advanced detection require one.
What are Roku’s battery-powered smart home cameras?
Announced on April 23, 2025, the Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus are Roku-designed cameras for indoor or outdoor use. They connect to the Roku Smart Home app for remote monitoring and can show live feeds on compatible Roku TVs and players.
Both models offer 1080p HD full-color video, color night vision, weather resistance and motion alerts. Roku support identifies the Battery Camera as IP65-rated. The launch announcement also described picture-in-picture viewing on TV; Roku’s Camera Carousel can switch between camera feeds on a timer or in response to activity.

Can you watch a Roku security camera on your TV?
Yes. Compatible Roku TVs and players can display live camera feeds, and Roku also offers remote monitoring through the Roku Smart Home mobile app or Roku Web View. Camera Carousel can rotate through feeds either on a timer or based on activity. Roku’s launch announcement described picture-in-picture, but availability and behavior can depend on the compatible device and software.
Do Roku battery cameras need a subscription?
No subscription is required for live viewing. A Roku Smart Home Subscription is required for cloud storage of event recordings for 14 days, person, package, pet and vehicle detection, and event filtering. Recording starts after motion or a manual trigger; the subscription adds cloud access to those recorded events and advanced features.

How do you mount and charge a Roku Battery Camera?
Mounting

Charging with the optional solar panel
Roku’s USB-C Solar Panel is compatible with both the Battery Camera and Battery Camera Plus. Roku lists the accessory at $29.99. It needs several hours of direct sunlight; Roku recommends positioning it at roughly a 30-degree upward angle and facing south in the Northern Hemisphere. Solar charging depends on sunlight and placement, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed substitute for checking the camera’s charge.
